We need a better TNA, not no TNA. That will never happen as long as Dixie Carter is the boss.

Anything that allows WWE to have a further monopoly and micromanaging death-clutch over the industry entirely is terrible. I like that TNA exists to give a place for those misused by WWE somewhere to make some money.

Yes and No
Yes if there is a better option that could use the timeslot and Spikes finding properly. TNA is a non starter that just wont die. Face facts people.
No if there isn't another company to take over, which I don't think there is. WWE having so much control has hurt pro wrestling over the last 12 years, so more of that is not a good thing. Also if Vince finally gets some competition, he will have to put an effort in and we will have better shows all round again.

The existence or nonexistence of TNA doesn't really effect wrestling all that much one way or another, frankly.
A money mark funded a vanity project for a while and then ran out of money and that was the end of it. I suppose it means a bunch of old hucksters will be more likely to accept the lowball offers WWE makes them, and some young guys won't get suckered into thinking they've hit the big leagues 'cause they're on TV when they're actually wasting years of wear and tear on their bodies while getting paid the equivalent of working at a fast food joint.

No, it'd be pretty bad- but not because of them allegedly providing "competition" to WWE. WWE's in no danger of being unseated as the top wrestling promotion anytime soon, hence why they're competing (as a plucky underdog, but still competing) with other entertainment venues (UFC, football, Teen Mom, etc). But despite that, it's still good for wrestlers, writers and fans to have multiple options to ply their trade and watch shows.
It might be decades before TNA even has a realistic shot to be #1, but that doesn't mean they can't carve out a healthy niche and make decent money. If they fold, it'll all be a colossal waste.

Are there really people that still, honest to god believe that WWE are only good (subjective I know) these days because TNA keeps them on their toes and that they'll revert back to 1995 booking quality without the tough competition Dixie brings?

See, that's the thing. I keep hearing people saying that if TNA goes under, WWE will never have competition again. Not to be a dick but...in what way, shape, or form is TNA competition for WWE right now? WWE does not take TNA seriously at all. WWE will NEVER have competition again. There will be alternatives sure but true, honest to god competition? Not gonna happen. As far as the world is concerned, WWE is wrestling. The only way that will change is if WWE dies and even then, it's much more likely that the wrestling business as a whole will go under than a company will replace WWE. All of that said, do I think wrestling, as a whole, would better if TNA went under? No because a lot of guys would lose their jobs and that's never good. Agreed. I'll go one further and say you'll never see another boom period ever again. The way people can get entertainment has changed way too much, technology and social media at the forefront of that; so niche entertainment like wrestling has pretty well plateaued. I'd take it even further and say that if there ever is something of a boom, only WWE will seriously benefit from it (unless TNA or ROH got a real big shot investor behind them, like Turner with the NWA) for the time being. In fact, given the way entertainment has shifted and options have expanded, WWE is inching close to what a boom period would resemble in 2013 (Raw's current average is roughly 2.8, so a boom for them now would maybe be a 3.3 average. There's too many distractions now for 5.0 to be feasible today). Given that, TNA's 1.2 average might not look like much, but it's still something to work with. Dixie's biggest mistake currently is her trying to quick-fix a cellar team into a world championship team with big signing after reality celeb appearance after dumb gimmick, when really she should be taking her time more and go for getting her "team" to a .500 record first. Then maybe a playoff run, and then with that comes hotter prospects giving TNA a closer look. THEN comes the real success. Their major malfunction aside from their crap advertising is patience.
