Rock vs. Mankind was essentially a filler feud to keep Rock away from Austin until WM XVI, even though it did involve title changes. The title was always going to go back to Rock before WM. However, the WM XV main event almost became a Triple Threat because of all the backstage politicking involved.

Sheamus/Del Rio.
It really had no story as to why they were feuding except that Del Rio wanted the title. They did add the Brogue Kick thing, but that was thrown out in such a way that it never mattered and felt completely inorganic. I have no idea whose bright idea it was to stretch it out for about 6 months. It never felt anything more than a time filler.

Edge vs. Rey Mysterio feud from early 2008 was pretty obviously something to give to Edge before he faced Taker at Wrestlemania and because his feud with Batista had already been done to death.

'Taker v Punk I during the SES days seemed like a random filler fued. It also killed my excitement coming off Punk's win over Hardy at the PPV. Also illustrated Punk's weaknesses back then, as he tried to use the very things that he used as a complaint against Jeff Hardy on the Undertaker, which really set him back. To me, Undertaker/Booker T springs to mind in early 2004.

I'm surprised no one's said this yet.
Sheamus/Mark Henry from earlier this year. That was the definition of a filler feud and it's even worse when they feuded not that long ago over the WHC.

Yeah, the whole "your drug people with mysticism" thing fell really flat from a writing perspective. There are a ton of different ways they could have gone with it that would have been better. Honestly, since the Undertaker basically ambushed him at the PPV Punk could have just played that up and that was the reason why they were fueding.

Anyone remember that seemingly endless jericho/x-pac feud from the fall of 2000? That just seemed thrown on there to have justification to keep x-pac on the roster.

Randy Orton had a string of pointless feuds going from 2011 to 2013; - Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett
- Randy Orton vs. Kane
- Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler
- Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio
- Randy Orton vs. Big Show (after Wrestlemania)
None of them had any substance and were just an excuse to book Orton on a PPV card with little to no effort.

I recall a feud back in.....2002 or so? with Jericho vs. Jeff Hardy, which suddenly turned into Jericho vs. Test because Hardy showed up late to a Raw or something; and then back into a Jericho vs. Jeff feud 2 week later. Y2J was basically feuding with 2 people at once. I was going to say this. Basically, it all happened in February and parts of March during Jericho's feud with Michaels. Anyway, just throwing this out there, but I believe the term has always been either "mini feud" or "side angle."

He made reference to it on AoW (I think), when mentioning his pre-MitB Cena feud in early-'11.

Pretty much any Royal Rumble title match. Along with any WWE title match at the June PPV.

Pretty much anything Sheamus did between losing the US title in May 2011 and winning the 2012 Rumble. He kept wrestling every week and won 95% of the time, but it seemed like no one had any idea of what to do with him other than "keep him look strong, but not involved in any of the title pictures"

Damn, even more impressive now.

Big Show/Triple H in early 2006.
Rock/Undertaker in early 2002.
JBL/Booker in 2004.

eh i don't know if this should count. they usually put in a "non-threat" in a title match at the rumble to get more stars in the match itself.
