Bells and Whistles. This Round asked the would-be FAN Idols to send in one song that featured an instrument that wasn't a part of the traditional rock and roll trio of the guitar, bass guitar, and the drums. A bossa nova jazz quintet's blaring horns, a chamber pop's harpsichord solo, an avant-garde hip-hop producer's use of a tricked out car revving up, this round allowed contestants to expand their horizons and pick music from all over the musical spectrum.

This winner of Bells and Whistles has the option of picking the next category from a list of three categories related to adding something else to a musical performance, the categories to be reposted in another post. As in the prior Rounds, the scores of this Round and the next are cumulative and the bottom two (or more) scoring contestants will face off in the next of our Sing-Offs. Now, the scores:

Voices

Choose 1 Song that features at least two different vocalists. It can be a traditional duet, a song featuring backing vocals, a song featuring two different vocal styles (singing and rapping, singing and spoken word, etc.) but it has to feature more than one singer.



Strange Bedfellows

Choose 1 Song that features two or more different musical artists collaborating who typically do not work together. A duet, a song using a sample, a musical mash-up, live performances featuring members from different bands, a famous producer like Dr. Dre or Moby lending their style to another musician's music, etc. Performances with many musicians, such as "We are the World" or various Live Aid performances, will not count toward the one artist, one song rule, as they will just be considered "Live Aid performers" or another umbrella term.



Space Cowboys: Genres

Choose 1 Song that can be considered a blend of two or more musical genres. An alternative rock song with electronica influences, a jazz song with a hip hop beat, a classical metal piece, a pop country song among other musical performances.

Note: Space Cowboys originally had a second part that essentially was redoing one of Cage's Rounds. I decided just to go with the blended genre category since that was already played through.

Absolutely stunned that "Same Auld Lang Syne" did so poorly.

Really happy to have came in first place. I discovered Walk Off the Earth last year season, when the group I was in needed a "wow" song. After finding their Somebody that I used to know where all five people were crammed together and playing the guitar together. From there, I really grew into a huge fan of the band and even used them for the double dip. Personally, I'm just really impressed with their ability to perform so many rhythmic actions and patterns and bring it together in an awesome song.

So I'm really glad about the high ranking and if that means that perhaps one or two of the judges really liked the band, I hope you check out their youtube channel. Link.

Anyway, I'm going to choose Voices for the next round.

Fantastic (especially since I think the category gives players the most options).

There must be at least two vocalists featured in the song; background singers do count, though judges reserve the right, as always, to judge the category how they choose. You can also choose mash-ups and other performances where the vocalists aren't performing at the same time, just as long as there are two or more vocalists.

Pretty sure I know which one you didn't have a gameplan for and, yeah, that was likely the Round I was the least certain about.

We'll play through the Round and then the Sing-Off but I want to give the contestants with their songs already in the Next Round. Think about what you want to send, ask me questions, etc.

Remember, with five songs still to come, there's a big risk of doubling artists and songs. The 5 remaining still have precedent over artists and songs so, if you pick a song for this Round and they choose the same artist (or song), they get it over you. I'll accept songs but keep that in mind. Having a back-up pick would be advisable but not mandatory.
