So was it for a joke and then he just wanted to sit things out? I know his story, but as incredible as this would be if he were still alive, a Kardashian would do something the next day and everyone would move on. Nothing lasts anymore

Nothing lasts anymore If Robert Kardashian returned from the dead (whether his death was revealed to be a hoax or not), that would be a story that wouldn't go away any time soon.

I am not inclined to believe it. Kaufman thrived on attention, it is the whole reason he pulled those infamous stunts. I have trouble imagining him wanting to lead an average life.

I wish this was true. I got goosebumps when I saw that picture of his "daughter" for some reason.

Be pretty cold-blooded if he let his father live out the entire rest of his life letting him think his son was dead though.

He's dead.
As much as they like to paint this idea that Kaufman was the ultimate prankster and so forth, the truth is less than that. He was more than anything else a surrealist entertainer that exposed the flaws in a lot of things, one of my favorites was his "stand up act" with Zmuda as the heckler who knew his routine and went to work exposing how one note comedy could be. The only things that were worked shoots was the wrestling and the Fridays' incident.
At this point, what "joke" would Kaufman be playing? Not everyone believes he's dead anyways, so it's not like he's getting anything over on a lot of people for over 30 years.

The legend of Andy Kaufman faking his death is just that, a legend, that those that were close to him trot out every so often to try to pretend that he was more than he was.

It's a great joke either way. If he faked his death it's the greatest joke ever told. If his family is working us it might even be a greater joke

It's pretty fascinating to me. The idea of someone actually laying out an elaborate hoax that has lasted nearly 30 years would be a prime example of "truth is stranger than fiction". But I can't bring myself to buy this. In a world where everyone has a camera and nothing stays hidden, you'd have to be a damn wizard to pull this off. On the other hand though, simply living a normal life would probably make a person invisible. I don't believe, but I really want to.

On the other hand, nothing would give you more attention than reappearing after years. I remember 10 years ago or whatever there was a strange video that had a guy hiding behind a table with a mask handing out kaufman scripts and Lawler/ Kaufman action figures. I remember that having a weird vibe to it and seemed like something he would do. But have not seen the video in a while.

If he were alive, I would hope he comes out of the shadows and run down CM Punk for stealing his food for everyone in audience gimmick. Not too long along Punk bought pizzas for everyone at his documentary showing. Punk thinks, and the internet makes him out to be, sooooo cool and edgy, going against the grain of what normal people or stars do yet guys have been doing worked promos and non worked promos for years and Andy Kaufman did the food thing years ago.

If he is revealed to be alive, I hope he walks out onto a stage in tears, goes to give a speech, and then Jerry Lawler runs out, piledrives him and then runs off into the distance cackling.

You'd have thought that with today's technology, someone would be suspicious, take a photo, and we'd analyse whether it was Kaufman or not who was walking the street. If he is alive, he must live somewhere really remote. He'd be 64 today, so there's that to take into account.

I love Andy Kaufman. I've read all the books and watched whatever could be watched. But there are two things that always pop up in my head when these rumors come out: His death certificate. And Bob Zmuda saying for YEARS at this point that Andy never faked his own death, he only brought it up like once and never mentioned it again. Those carry a lot of weight with me. The thing is, if this kind of stuff is what it takes to keep his name out there I'm fine with it. Andy was phenomenally talented and more people in a new generation need to see and appreciate him.
