According to Rey Mysterio anyway. Discuss.

One of the greatest? Probably not.
One of the most memorable? YEAH.

Say what you will, but he was pretty damn over prior to his unmemorable heel turn in 2000. I don't think they could ever make him World champ, but he could have been on the edge of a main event push if they ever felt like it.

I was in my apartment watching Raw a year ago when my non fan friend came over. Upon seeing what was on TV he immediately asked "Is Rikishi still around?" Don't knock the Kish

Rikish is/was a top tier superheavyweight. One of the best ever? Probably.

In terms of wrestling speak this is about the smallest stretch I've seen.

He was one of the most over guys during the Attitude Era. That says a lot right there.

Evolved through Headshrinkers, to (the appalling) Sultan and then cam e back as Rikishi and, as was noted above, was pretty damn over in the Attitude era. One of the greats? Probably not. Hugely entertaining and underrated? Definitely

He was very over and if it weren't for that shitty heel turn I honestly think he would've gotten a transitional run with the title.

To be fair Rey gets thrown around a lot so his memory might be a little scrambled.

It makes you wonder exactly how over a lot of the guys were back then. Rikishi was definitely known by fans who don't constantly watch the product.
Batista is another guy who was severely over and known. My dad doesn't watch and yet he knew who Batista was.

Depends on your definition of greatest. In terms of size, he's up there.

Rikishi did it for the Rock like how Rey does everything for Eddie.

He was one of the most over guys during the Attitude Era. That says a lot right there. I'm sorry, but this defense has become really cliche, and it pops up every time an attitude wrestler is being discussed.

Well he made it to a level of popularity during his career that most wrestlers can only dream of so he's up there in the grand scheme of things. And he he did bust his ass in some failed gimmicks so Im glad he got his time as a near top guy even if it wasnt to last, which wasnt really his fault with the heel turn athough who's to say where he would have went otherwise. I remember a time on Smackdown in 2000 when I think they had a raffle with every superstars name for a title shot at HHH and Rikishi's name came out and the crowd pop was huge, the rest of the roster were chanting his name,, Tiple H was shitting himself and I was marking out.

Rikishi was pretty cool. He was like Samoa Joe 1.0, giant fat dude who could throw enziguiris and superkicks with the best of them.

Rikishi was very good, even at a ballooned weight. He could do even more when he was younger and less fat. I think he and his two brothers Umaga and Tama (his twin) were all very good in the ring. Tama is probably the most underrated in the Samoan family since he never had a very big run.

Rikishi really falls into the category of super over even by attitude era levels.
I recall he come here to chile for an indy promotion and got some decent tv exposure in a big channel

His heel turn was one of the most epic flops ever when taken into context, but there's no denying he was easily one of the most over during the Attitude Era.
One of the best ever might be stretching it though.
