I don't care if the chances of him turning heel are in the negatives. For the sake of this discussion, let's say that hypothetically WWE finally turns him at (insert PPV name here). Should he brush off his old Ph.D? Or should he be an entirely different character?
I really loved his rap battle promos, and I think as long as he got the freedom Punk has, and that he had last year with The Rock, he could make it work in 2014. He had a great intensity to him back in his early days. What does everyone here think?

No. If he turns heel, his rapper gimmick will get him over as a face quicker than ever. If he turns heel, he needs to do things that will actually make people hate him. Essentially, he should be the exact same character he is now, only incredibly disingenuous and two-faced.

It would look so silly.
That gimmick was good for its time, but does not have longevity. After a while, it would be a sad middle aged guy acting like a wanna be rapper.
John Cena is doing just fine in his role, but if he turned heel, he would have to do something crazy such as being a pedophile or child abuser to get the entire audience to hate him. I would hate to see that, but it seems there is a portion of the WWE universe that does not take necrophilia, rape and testicular carelessness as a serious offence.

Since the rapper gimmick would make him a face again, or a dad trying to be cool- why not just go all out for a heel Cena: Have him steal Kerwin White's theme/music. Just have him with that theme, coming out as a completely lame, suburban dad- but acts exactly like he always did and thinks he's the ooolest man alive.

Give Cena generic black trunks, make his theme music the most generic guitar riff possible, give him Paul Heyman as a manager and have Michael Cole refer to him as being "aggressive" at a minimum of 10 times a match.

I think that could work. Minus the generic guitar riff part. I think his current music would suit any gimmick, even a SRS, suit wearing, Jericho-esque type of character I know some people say that he should just crank his current character up to the max, but everyone LIKES to chant "LET'S GO CENA CENA SUCKS!". By changing his entire look and becoming your run of the mill generic heel, Cena takes that away from the fans and sucks the fun out of heckling him, which makes him an even bigger heel. |

If he turns heel he should keep the exact same character. If he wins the unified title he should be the same except say the authority is doing a great job and he supports them 100%. Nothing else should change only sign he's a heel should be an admiration for the authority. I think that would be the perfect heel turn for him.

Yes and no.
He should turn heel, and start to refer to himself as the Doctor of Thuganomics again, but he should wear a suit with a gold chain over it and act as white as he possibly can. Start being incredibly corporate, while considering yourself as being from the streets.

Hulk Hogan went Hollywood... The Rock went Hollywood... John Cena should go Hollywood. Have him be like Kanye West meets Justin Bieber.  He should dress like that and Nikki Bella should be his Kim Kardashian. He should be outlandish, ridiculously full of himself and think he's above WWE. The Authority make him the face of the company because he's 'the biggest name in entertainment'. WWE Raw should actually become WWE Raw 'Starring John Cena'. John should grow his hair out and make it like this...  He writes a new auto-tuned entrance theme and references friendships with Miley Cyrus, Bieber, West and all those celebrities people HATE. At the same time, have Punk as the 'adults' face and Bryan as the 'kids' face. That way, the kids can hate John Cena because he's turned into a 'bad man' and the adults hate him because he's become the kind of celebrity adults hate, but both have a guy they can cheer. |
