I think the Undertaker is one of the most impressive examples of star-building and I think you absolutely have to give the WWF credit for that. His his character has absolutely nothing to do with his WCW characters, he was truly built from scratch. In no way did that character take off because everyone knew him from his Mean Mark exploits.

These are all highly successful and marketable guys who made a good living for themselves in the business. But how many world championships or pay per view main events are we looking at with this list? If these guys are made stars, then for WCW, you can add: Stevie Ray Disco Inferno Juventud Guerrera Rey Misterio Dean Malenko Chris Jericho Chris Benoit Eddie Guerrero La Parka On a more general note: Both companies took workers from each other and in some cases made them into bigger stars. That's the way wrestling has always worked - bring in proven draws from other territories to put up against your own established stars.

Almost no one through the Monday Night Wars. Almost everyone since. Ken Shamrock Kinda question that one. He'd already made his name in UFC.

We'll I'm not sure what we are classifying as stars, but if Godfather and Val Venis are stars, than Goldust was a mega-star as Dustin Rhodes in WCW. Ken Shamrock was famous before he set one foot in WWE. But I was thinking of this in terms of the WCW stars thread. If WWF gets Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, Triple H and such, WCW gets to claim Big Show, Booker T, DDP, Steve Austin, Brian Pillman, Chris Benoit, Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Malenko, etc. If we are counting no exposure anywhere prior to WWE (like the Goldberg WCW example) they have The Rock and that's about it through at least the start of the Monday Night Wars. After that there is more of an argument to have over specific guys, but it's still generally true that most of the guys they've built from "nothing" have almost all occurred since they became the only game in town.
