Anyone else in the same position? Whenever someone mentions Smackdown, I only understand the concept in theory.

It's basically a televised house show now but there have been a few times where Smackdown was the best wrestling show around. In 2009, it was the only reason I kept watching WWE.

Yeah I understand the arguement for when it turned into a televised house show during the Super Show era and Present era of Raw but for many years Smackdown was by far the way better show

Yeah, I haven't watched it much the last 8 months. You should have at least held out to 2010

Nothing important ever happens. But there's decent matches and it's not three freaking hours long.

I laugh when people say that 2009 sucked because of the Guest Hosts, because that statement is only half right. Smackdown and ECW was good stuff back then. Ever since they started letting Smackdown guys on Raw, SD itself has slowly become more and more irrelevant.

Smackdown is the best pure wrestling show on TV.

SmackDown! ruled from Fall 2002 through 2003.

Smackdown over the summer of '09 is the single best stretch of consistently good-to-great WWE that I've seen since getting back into watching wrestling.

I was just put off by its growing insignificance. I stopped watching due to personal reasons, I changed jobs and worked nights. I didn't do that job for long but after that I could never get back into it. I'd catch occasional shows once I remembered it was on but it was difficult to get into as little of consequence happened. It's like if they made a show of all things that happened during commercial breaks on the WWE app, if you didn't watch it you'd not miss that much.
Whereas Raw, as turgid as it can be, is still 'appointment' television, Smackdown post 2002/03 became something that I had to specifically remember to watch. I may have caught the odd post-big PPV episode here and there over the years but I never felt I was missing anything through not seeing it.

Last SmackDown I watched was the Great American Bash last year when Ryder won the battle royal.
The spoilers don't do anything for me or make want watch SD. It's just a rehash of Raw matches from the same week or ADR's search for aggression.

So your entire premise of not seeing any Smackdown since 2002 is actually not true?

I don't watch it either. The last time I remember tuning in was after I heard Orton did that crazy toe touch jump. I can't imagine anything has topped that since.

Smackdown is the best pure wrestling show on TV. Billy Gunn is the best pure athlete in the WWF.

Raw might have been the flagship show (which there's definitely no getting around today), but from fall 2002 to mid 2004, Smack Down! was the brand.

Smackdown has been a consistently entertaining show for a good while now. The only problem is that nothing on it really matters.
