I know his condition improved over time, but has anyone heard how he's doing now?

I'm fairly sure that the amount was reduced quite a bit on appeal, but I can't find a follow-up story. I think there was a "Last Year By The Numbers" story or something like that in either Pro Wrestling Illustrated or Inside Wrestling, but I haven't been able to find the issue.

From Meltzer's Observer at the time: Before the finish, Jannetty executed a maneuver called the Rocker Dropper (better known today as the Ace Crusher), putting his leg on Austin's neck, then jumping up in the air, with the object being Austin would take a face-first bump. Whoa, whoa, whoa Meltz....an Ace Crusher is not the same as the Famouser. Weird that that is the detail I pick out as unbelievable from this trial. Johnny Ace innovated the Rocker Dropper/Famouser as well, and named it the Ace Crusher II.

I had to tear apart the storage room in my basement, but I found this: "Remember Chuck Austin, the preliminary wrestler who sued the WWF after having his neck broken by Marty Jannetty's "Rocker Drop." He has agreed to settle out of court and will receive approximately $10-million. That is more than $15-million shy of what a jury had originally awarded him." (in Bill Apter's "Ringside" column on page 54 of the January 1996 edition of Pro Wresting Illustrated).

The Chuck Austin lawsuit was the official moment kayfabe died to me. I knew it wasn't 100% real but seeing the story on tv and newspapers drove it home to me.
