If there were a 16 team playoff (based on Top 16 in the BCS)
1. FSU 16. LSU
8. Missouri 9. South Carolina
5. Stanford 12. Clemson
4. Michigan St. 13. Oklahoma St.
6. Baylor 11. Oklahoma
3. Alabama 14. Arizona St.
7. Ohio St. 10. Oregon
2. Auburn 15. UCF

It's always fun to do the mock playoff brackets but personally I hope we never expand past six or eight teams. Sixteen is too much

Given how few games are played in college football and how many teams there are, expanding it to too many would basically just give traditional powerhouses and excuse to play even easier schedules than they do now.

Rich Ellerson is out at Army. Idk if Army could ever be good again. Navy gets athletes, Army gets a lot of fat guys. I'm beginning to wonder how long til it falls to the FCS level for military academies, like The Citadel. They were 7-6 and beat SMU in the Armed Forces Bowl in 2011. They went 3-9 in the last 2 seasons. But, if you can't beat Navy, you aren't gonna last long. Navy gets athletes because they do the triple option. Army gets fat guys because their mantra is the old classical "3 yards and a cloud of dust". Army football can be a grind to watch sometimes. It's like they haven't been told "it's okay, you can pass the ball now. It's in the rules."

Good point. I think 8 to 12 would be suitable. I wouldn't mind 16, though. Heck, the FCS Playoffs just expanded their playoff from 20 teams to 24 teams and they usually have some good games in there. But, yeah, like you said, there's always the possibility of schools just padding their schedule with a bunch of cupcakes even more than now just to try to get in. I think a big playoff would be cool to watch. But it would come at a price, because barring some good conferences games, the regular season would be a total snoozefest.

True, but the FBS is much more steeped in being a traditional powerhouse. They get the inherent advantage just by being who they are, or what conference they are in, so it'd be much more defined, I think.

The FBS division will expand its playoff to at least eight. Right or wrong, they will see how much money is in four teams and then they'll expand to eight. Six would be fine by Myers. Give #1&2 byes and have a quarter final

I think the biggest difference between the current landscape of FBS and FCS is the distance from top to bottem. FCS while it has some distance from your North Dakota, Sam Houston and Eastern Washington down to your Columbia or Indiana state, the gap is not as glaring as Alabama, Texas, TAMU, Ohio State down to App state, Georgia Southern and New Mexico State. If they want to go bigger playoff, they are going to need to split off and pick up a few IE the 5 power go to 16 each(80) that removes the bottom what... 40+ which are no where near the top.

I think that a 6 team playoff would be the best way to go. There shouldn't be much debate on whether the top 6 are the best in the nation and it gives 1 and 2 a bye.
I do think that with the playoff it really puts a cap on how far a small conference team can go though, at least with the BCS they had a shot to get to a big time bowl game, but with the playoff odds are that the Boise's and NIU's of the world aren't going to get invited to a big time bowl game anymore.

Why can't they just make things simple? Have a 12 team playoff with 10 seeds going to the conference champions and then 2 seeds going to at-large bids(so the FBS Independents have a shot at getting in)?
It's the simplest solution there is and aside from the at-large bids it removes any controversy behind who is playing because it becomes a simple goal, win your conference and you get a shot at winning the title.

That would be a simple solution, but no way the power conferences would allow the non-BCS schools to get more teams as a whole then they could get. If they went with 12 teams, they might devote two of those spots to the best conference champion, as designated by a council consisting of representatives from the power conferences.

I wouldn't like that personally. It sounds fair. But to me if you haven't fought, cut throats and earned a top five finish, you aren't really a championship caliber team in FBS. You are a very good team if you finish top 12. But you are not deserving of the same shot a top five or six team earned.

It has all to do with winning your conference. For example under my suggestion Bowling Green would be one of the playoff teams this year cause they won the MAC.
