People who boo him now would cheer him, people who cheer him would boo him. A lot of Make-a-Wish kids who are dying of cancer or the likes would lose a hero. And that is very real. If that's the sole reason, then the WWE is in serious trouble, and so is John Cena the person. I've heard him say essentially that he's the only one the kids have to cheer for. Thus, WWE's creative direction as a business MUST be centered around that, given how much they tout the connection with the Make-A-Wish foundation. Cena, the man, will have to keep going out there, keep rushing back from injury early, keep going with the same character saying the same lines week after week, month after month. The physical toll is obvious, the mental toll of such repetition, well Hogan's done it for decades to the point that separating man from gimmick is damn near impossible. His body is also a total wreck. I'm all for doing anything we can for the Make-A-Wish kids, I donate my money and time whenever I can to charities like it, but if that is the sole reason to not freshen up a character and, in the process, take some of the weight off of a man who has burned the candle at both ends for you for damn near a decade, then I don't think the ends justify the means. Not by a long shot. His schedule will adjust when he's ready for it to, or when he can't go full-time anymore. Same as with any other top-of-the-card Superstar. Taker did it as long as he could, so did many others. His character has nothing to do with that. And as for "same character saying the same lines every week," I don't see that -- last Raw ending was as good a promo to turn a crowd as I've seen. What does Make-A-Wish have to do with Bryan chanting the same word every week, with years of "You will burn in ... hell" same-old promos from Undertaker, with Randy Orton droning through his sominex promos, with CM Punk being a snarky smart-arse, etc.? And as my post noted, the real reason not to change him is all it would accomplish would be to get the split audience to change sides -- moms and kids and marks would boo, smarks and IWC types would cheer. No gain. I don't see his character as being as played out as Hogan was when he turned ... he had no choice because the audience was tired of him and wasn't reacting. Cena still gets reactions aplenty.

They wouldn't turn him heel without a ready-made replacement top babyface.I guess once they got that then turning Cena heel in a 'passing of the torch' moment would make sense but we're nowhere near that currently.

If CM Punk a few years back wasn't, then Daniel Bryan certainly is in that position. Besides, John Cena has and never will be a draw to the casual market like Hogan, Austin and Rocky were back in the day so truthfully, what would they lose by having a change at the top?

I want to see if children will cheer him even if he uses heel tactics. That's why I want him to turn heel while not insulting his fans and asking them to still support him. I'd love to see him do a promo where he asks the Cena-loving kids boo the hell out of the Daniel Bryan-loving fans. He'd have an army of heel kids in his corner. Never been done before. Well worth a try.
