I've posted this elsewhere but thought I'd get some thoughts from fellow FAN members also. I follow the NWA and they recently held Starrcade 2013 which basically ruined the legacy of Starrcade (Possibly the last remaining untarnished thing from the NWA's past) Biggest name on the card was a guy who appeared in ROH a handful of times called Damien Wayne. To be fair he's an okay talent but not Starrcade calibre. Here's an article: www.examiner.com/article/new-champion-crowned-at-nwa-starcadeAnd a photograph: Does this disappoint anyone else? The last Starrcade before this featured Scott Steiner Vs Sid Vicious which was hardly a classic but was still 2 big stars wrestling in an arena...The fact Starrcade main events are now held in halls with indy guys main eventing disappoints me greatly.

Isn't the Starrcade name still under copyright by WWE? Yes, the WWE owns Starrcade. But, this was NWA Starcade. I've been watching a lot of the early Starrcade's lately and immediately noticed the change in spelling. Honestly this whole thing comes off as a joke, but then again so does the current NWA haha. Outside of having some good talent (which often get overlooked because of the stigma the current NWA has developed) and exploiting their ties to NJPW, there isn't much that distinguishes the current NWA from indies who will stoop to knock off names to sell a few more tickets. As such it really isn't that surprising. It honestly doesn't bother me at all. No one is going to consider it in the same canon of events that the original Starrcade events were in and if push came to shove the NWA would even have to admit this since WWE own the copyright. Hell, I say the NWA go balls out with this idea. I'd love to see Halloween Havok and SupaBrawl!

Lou Marconi, Cueball Carmichael, Christian York... This promotion is a "Jimmy Cicero" or "Frank Stalletto" away from being Steel City Wrestling circa 1998. So Pittsburgh's "fifteen years ago" is North Carolina's "right now'," I take it.

Shouldn't there be Stars in a Starcade? If they're going to use an old PPV name, then do Superbrawl or something.

Isn't the Starrcade name still under copyright by WWE? Surprisingly, no! WWE let the trademark expire in 2005. (Though, since they did put out that Starrcade DVD a few years ago, and if they use clips from the show on their website or TV shows, WWE could still make a claim to the mark under common law.)
