Hypothetically, If your current favorite actor/actress committed a really severe crime like murder, rape, etc. or something else really bad would you still be a fan? Would you still be able to watch their movies? Or would you just never want to watch them ever again, even after being a huge fan for a long time?

Depends on the actor and the method.
If Daniel Day Lewis beat a guy to death with a Gunstock Club, I'd be that much more interested to see his next flick.

Depends on the actor and the method. If Daniel Day Lewis beat a guy to death with a Gunstock Club, I'd be that much more interested to see his next flick. His defense would be that it was his method acting for his sequel to There Will Be Blood. And really...can we blame him?

I'm someone who really, really doesn't care what someone has done in real life and it doesn't make me view the film or listen to the song or whatever any differently than I did before. If it's an actor, I'm a fan of their acting and their performance and no matter how big of crime they commit, nothing will change the fact that I still like them as an actor. That goes for everything.

I can still watch Chris Benoit's wrestling matches, and I still laugh my ass off watching OJ Simpson in the Naked Gun movies.
So whatever, man.

Depends on the crime. If it was something Charlie Sheenish, yeah no problem. If it was down the same path as Ian Watkins... No freaking way.
If I was a big fan of the movies made by him/her it would totally suck, because whilst they might be great movies in their own right, they would be forever tainted Blythe afterthoughts of the actor involved.

I'm a fan of an artist's works first and foremost, and if they're a good person on top of that, so much the better. If someone I enjoyed committed a Watkins/Benoit level act, I'd still appreciate their work but I wouldn't be compelled to broadcast my fandom anymore.

If the crime was as severe as murder or rape, then no. I still can't watch a benoit match without feeling extremely uncomfortable and he was one of my favourites.

Not sure, honestly. On one hand, I'd be off them as a person for life if they did anything Benoit/Watkins level. On the other hand, the same thing that attracted me to their work before would probably still attract me; even moreso, since it'd be a reminder of better times, before they crossed the moral event horizon.

Sure. I respect the work, not necessarily the person.

Probably. I can watch Chinatown and think "Wow, that horrible piece of shit Roman Polanski sure made a great movie."

Yes
Unless it was something like what Ian Watkins did, then I couldn't.

I still can't watch a Benoit match without feeling very uncomfortable. The discomfort for me is compounded with the idea that his brain's getting damaged in those matches.

I'd say not sure, because I don't really consider myself a fan of anyone. I enjoy the works, not the people. A good movie is still a good movie to me, regardless of what anyone involved did.

My current favorite actor? Man, Michael Shannon really does look like a serial murderer... I wouldn't be shocked if he makes some of the other Boardwalk Empire actors nervous during scenes when Van Alden has to be scary.

My all time favorite actor is Harrison Ford. If he was caught molesting 3 year olds. I would never be able to watch Indiana Jones or Star Wars again.
I have never watched A Benoit match since and I remove him from the roster when I play HCTP.
Watch this and tell me it didnt make you uncomfortable:
