Honestly, if anything happens, you'll likely see something like what went down with Paula Deen-some sort of support movement for 'em.

Whelp, they had a good run. I wouldn't throw dirt on 'em quite yet, as at least some of their fanbase is probably pretty firmly in agreement with them. Don't get me wrong, I don't think everyone that's a fan feels that way (hell I just bought my stepdad one of their dvds for Christmas, and he's cool.), but there'll be a pretty vocal segment that's right there with him. Yeah, given the cash they're raking in they're in no danger of getting axed soon, although the bloom is definitely off the rose, so to speak. They're understandably about to start shedding sponsors like whoa.

I'm more offended over what Duck Dynasty and reality shows of its ilk have done to A&E. How dare they sully the house that An Evening at The Improv built!

What I don't understand is why anyone would be surprised. This may sound like a blanket statement, but they're southern good ol' boys. That's pretty much their default mindset.

Anti-Gay AND he basically said black people were doing just fine during the good ol' Jim Crow days.
Just...how can a grown man be so freaking stupid? Not even just believing in this stuff but saying it in a public forum? I'm no bigot but I would think that if I was and was a star of a popular TV show, I would know when to keep my stupid mouth shut.
So yeah, f*** this dude. His show could be canned but I doubt it. For whatever reason, I don't think many blacks or gay people watch Duck Dynasty, at least not enough to put together any kind of boycott of the show. He'll probably do some insincere apology, not learn a goddamn thing, and go back to his backwards ass ways.

“I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior,” he said in a statement sent to FOX411. “My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.” --From Foxnews

What I don't understand is why anyone would be surprised. This may sound like a blanket statement, but they're southern good ol' boys. That's pretty much their default mindset. They're also really forthcoming about their religious beliefs, so it shouldn't really be any surprise that their views fall in line with that. I don't know how anyone should be surprised at that. The statement about blacks during Jim Crow was more interesting to me, but even then, as Kitsune said, that's just his experience in his particular situation. It may be a bit myopic, but you can't really act like it's impossible that he'd grow up thinking tht.

The part about choosing a vagina over a man's ass is unbelievably stupid. Human sexuality is so much deeper than "What can I put my penis in?" so denigrating to that level, the base level that gay men are gay because they want to have sex with a man's ass over a woman's vagina, is insulting and simply stupid.
However, what's somehow more insulting, is the insinuation that because the black people he saw were apparently Uncle Reemus singing "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah", Jim Crow laws were totally acceptable. The money quote is "I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash." So white trash and black people are one in the same in this man's warped perspective.
And yeah, I'm sure growing up in the rural south in the 1950s, he probably didn't hear a lot of black people raising their voices and making a fuss, because those that did would likely have been beaten or killed. So of course they stayed silent, because the alternative was rather unpleasant.

Well, the OP leave out two big parts of the anti-gay statement:
(not including the religious parts of these statements)
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there — bestiality"
"whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists"
They're equating being a consenting adult in a loving relationship to raping an animal or committing an act of terrorism.
That's pretty above-and-beyond even typical, for lack of a better term, "non-surprising" anti-gay sentiment from their ilk. Those types of statements are in Jay Briscoe territory.

I wasn't sure what to include and what to disregard, and I didn't want to get too close to anything mentioning sin because I wanted it to be as non-religious as possible. These are important parts of the interview, though, so thank you for including them.

First of all I don't like this show or its over produced merchandise.

See it's the blanket "Oh, the SOUTHERN guy..." people are taking about that I take issue with, as if there aren't intolerant morons in every area of the country. Are there people like that, especially rednecks down here? You bet your ass, are there people like that everywhere? You're damn skippy.

However the man, famous or not is entitle to his own opinion and I respect a person for being willing to speak their mind no matter how idiotic. He's allowed to speak his mind, he just has to accept the consequences that accompany such a stupid and offensive comment, which could include sponsors backing out of the show, viewership numbers plummeting, A&E cancelling the show, his fifteen minutes of fame ending and him fading back into total obscurity. See it's the blanket "Oh, the SOUTHERN guy..." people are taking about that I take issue with, as if there aren't intolerant morons in every area of the country. Are there people like that, especially rednecks down here? You bet your ass, are there people like that everywhere? You're damn skippy. Yeah, the worst possible way to respond to an ignorant blanket statement of intolerance is with an ignorant blanket statement of intolerance.
