Mariah Carey, you have tremendous vocal range. I get it, and in a lot of cases it's beautiful to listen to. But that horrid scale near the end of "Someday"? Terrible. Sounds like she just stepped on the broken glass she shattered earlier in the song. A lot of mid-to-late '90s songs that felt the need to throw in a rap for no reason other than to sound hip. Unless you buy the album, it's not getting played on Top 40/Pop stations anyway (most of them edit it out), so cut the crap. (Rare was the No Doubt song that made it through unscathed. Some would even cut out the "bananas" cheer.) If you can't get though a rap/tune without throwing out subliminal hints/plugs for booze, clothes, jewelry, etc. - then don't write the song! I could give a crap about your Hennessey, I don't care about your Bentley, I could give a rip about your Gucc-ay, you a brand whore, that simp-lay.  |

When there's dead air at the end of a song that just isn't needed. See One Armed Scissor by At The Drive-In. Or an extra part added like Faith by Limp Bizkit. Sometimes I think buying the single version of stuff does make sense.

Sometimes I think buying the single version of stuff does make sense. On some similar notes - those moments in Mars Volta songs where they go through long interludes of nonsensical, pointless noise. |

This was a HUGE problem back in the DLing days on napster, but you'd download a rap song usually and they'd start rapping and throughout the song some idiot DJ would just yell stuff like "BRAND NEW FLAVOR COMIN AT YA FOR TWO THOUSAND" or crap like that On a similar note, producers putting their watermark on rap songs. Knock that shit off, nobody cares. Yes, the producer can play a huge role in the success of a rapper but when I'm just relaxing and listening to music, I don't need to be reminded that "MIKE QUILL" or whoever made the beat. |

This is an great song anyway But what f***s me off is 3:45 there's a bit that sounds particularly awesome but than it annoyingly fades out leaving me all "OH COME ON", The song starts up again that particular bit doesn't come back. Basically any song that fades out, only to start back up and have an instrumental jam for the remaining 10-30 seconds of the song. I don't get what bands are trying to accomplish when doing that. I can think of only one song that fades out and comes back to full volume with a good reason... "Moodstreet" by Kim Mitchell ("Go For Soda" guy). It's basically about him falling asleep while driving, and the return to full volume is him snapping back to consciousness when he almost goes off the road! |

when songs have a cool breakdown part in the song for a solo but isnt anywhere else in the song for vocals...like the new guns n roses song "going down" sung by Tommy...i feel the breakdown part could have been used for a killer Axl vocal instead of Axl being just a background singer in the whole thing... link |

I also hate it when a cover song completely ruins the original song or makes you cringe when you hear the original. When I hear Behind Blue Eyes I cringe so much

Sometimes, that stuff is great. Frances the Mute really benefited from the interludes between songs, maybe my favorite record ever. But after that one they seemed more concerned with being grating and weird with it, rather than being cinematic. |
