I'm giving it a 9. Great song, plus (since I didn't watch the preview clips that apparently hinted at it) I really wasn't expecting the "Fluttershy becoming a vampire bat" twist. Once she slipped off from the group I saw it coming, though when they first showed the drained apples I thought she was somehow doing it as some sort of plot to get them to reverse what they did. Glad it didn't go in that direction, given it would've pretty much made everypony in the wrong instead of Fluttershy just being an innocent victim. |

Moral of the story, Twilight, stop using spells forever. Or at the very least, stick to the ones she knows and ones only done for comic relief. Any time she tries something new to solve the problem of the day it turns out horribly for everypony. |

Maybe the Vampireshy thing WILL further build.
We've had 3 episodes now with "last minute hint" things.
1)Castle-Mania: Pony of shadows is real.
2)Power Ponies: Comic magically vanishes.
3)Bats!: Fluttershy sill has a fang.
Meaning season finale:
-The Pony of Shadows pulls the Mane-Iac from the comic and turns Fluttershy into a vampire pony again to take over Equestria.

They should've gone the musical route with it. Honestly hearing that said it sort of feels like one just in terms of structure and atmosphere.
And nothing would have been better than a Flutterbat song. Ever.

I don't really mind if it's never referenced again. Not everything needs to be part of the continuity forever or lead to a bigger picture. Hell, My Little Pony is probably one of the better shows out there for strong continuity, so they can allow SOME stuff to be left alone.
I just don't really want it to get to a point where Fluttershy can't ever visit Applejack, or be around apples in general, in case of setting off her vampirism.

Also, there'd be one hell of a chorus whenever Fluttershy is around apples going "WHY ISN'T SHE BECOMING A VAMPIRE? SHE'S MEANT TO BECOME A VAMPIRE!" and that shit gets annoying real quick.
Almost wish they HADN'T done a tease, to be honest...

Ok before I venture up to London to pick up Pony goodies This episode gets a 10 from me, I fookin loved it. - Vampire Fluttershy - Good song - Vampire Bat slapping an Apple out of Rainbow Dashes hoof, - More Jack/Shy There were flaws but honestly nothing to ruin it for me. My favourite episode of Season 4 so far. Really Solid Season so far, don't stop now |

I went into the episode not expecting much, give who we thought was writing the episode. Of course, I was pleasantly surprised when they showed who really did write it. Anyway, there were a lot of great things about this episode, like the references, the visuals, and Pinkie being her usual self. The best part was the song. It had a bit of a dark vibe to it, definitely Elfman-like. I'd say my favorite song of the season so far. Also, vampire Shy was a great twist that I didn't see coming. Made for some great action.
A few things I didn't like, even though they got the bats to stop liking apples, they still do the whole "you were right all along" thing at the end. I don't really like that cliche. That and they were apparently okay with the bats eating the apples again, when it's gonna take forever for those seeds to eventually grow. Had to knock a few points off for this.
