Friendship is only good until it interferes with a pony's livelihood. It's kind of why I don't want Flutterbat to stay in continuity... Because then the other five must live with the guilt that THEY MADE HER THAT WAY.

Hey, if the Turtles can live with turning April's father into a mutant, so can they. Just joking.

That reviewer has a point, I hope they don't completely ignore the ending to the episode.
But.. Good ol' days of Season 3? Come on.. I wouldn't really call Season 3 "the good ol' days."

I wonder if anyone has drawn Fluttershy dressed up as Moka from Rosario + Vampire yet? It would be perfect, considering Moka is a pink haired vampire.

Rather the "messy old days", right? The very, very slow days.

Also, maybe it is just me, but these vampire fruit bats looked a bit like two of the new Pokemon. The cute version of the VFBs shown when Flutters was talking about them looked like Noibat to me and their regular form looked a bit like Noivern to me as well.

You know... I still don't blame Applejack for reacting the way she did. As far as she was concerned, the Vampire Fruit Bats were a distinct danger to not only her livelihood, but what is supposed to be a major food supply for the ponies of Ponyville. While it might not be as vital as it was in Granny Smith's day, the apples are still a pretty important source, and they were doing a pretty good job at making their way through the orchard. Now, as I said before, the method they chose to handle it wasn't a very good one (not that my "Fireball the tree!" idea was ever much better), but they would have had to wait around for Fluttershy to fully learn their "language", during which time they'd continue to wreak havoc through the orchards. And there would still be the very real issue that they could just not give two shits about what the ponies want them to do.
Really, that might have been a bit more interesting lesson; that sometimes, a bad person really is a bad person, and you should occasionally listen to your friends if they try to warn you about them. But... meh, I guess it doesn't matter. It was still a pretty good episode, and while I disagreed with Fluttershy's stance, she was still portrayed better than normal even before she became a horrible monster.
I did see one person point out that the Earth Ponies are supposed to have a bit of magic that connects them with the earth, and so the Apples could grow things faster. But honestly... it's not like that's a cure-all for the problem. There would be limits to what could be done, so while it might not be a several year apple shortage while the new trees grew, it would still cause some pretty obvious issues. I'd also question how the bats gorging on apples would make the trees stronger, but I don't know enough about the subject to do so convincingly.
Also... you know, I'm actually pretty damn pleased with how the show has treated Twilight with regards to her becoming an alicorn thus far. It... actually feels like a lot of these episodes might not have been written with her being able to fly in mind, since she hasn't done much flying since the premiere (I think). I'm sure as the season goes on, it'll start to crop up a bit more, but for the time being, they're not making her more important than anypony else, and she's still acting like Twilight (even if that Twilight is more mature in the majority of her actions). Although... c'mon, she tried the "make their hunger go away" tactic before with the parasprites. What the hell.
This is why "Fireball the tree!" Twilight is best headcanon Twilight. Or AJ just whippin' out the shotgun.

Yeah, Twilight not being portrayed like so many feared turning into "Princess TWilight and her five serfs" is definitely a plus to this season so far.

Even the stuff with the renovations of the old castle makes sense beyond just being a thing for Twilight. After all, they still have the library they can continue to go through (especially with all of the hidden passages that could connect to hidden rooms with more books in them), plus its proximity to the Tree of Harmony (and The Box) means if they absolutely have to, they can stay there and keep an eye on it.
That being said, they've now got three overarching plots for this season. The restoration of the castle, The Box, and the Equestrian Games. I'm hoping they don't try to cram all three of them into being finished this season, although the castle being restored and the Games taking place should probably get wrapped up. And really... this is just fan speculation here, but if they do decide that the little bit of Sombra's horn flying away means he's not dead, then it could be tied into the Equestria Games. But that seems highly unlikely, so fweh.
