Free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha has decided to retire.
Asomugha will sign a one-day contract with the Raiders on Friday, retiring as a member of the organization that made him the No. 31 overall pick of the 2003 draft.

Unless Rodgers has a ton of rust, that game is going to be a slaughter. I can't remember the last time I've seen a Bears defense play this poorly. Counterpoint- Green Bay's defense isn't exactly the Carolina Panthers. They gave up in 3 of their last 4 games- 40 at Detroit, 36 in Dallas, 38 to Pittsburgh. It's no gimme the Packer defense is gonna do much themselves.s

Also Green Bay owns Cutler, he's 1-8 against them. Plus Green Bay's defense has a chance at stopping something, Chicago's defense can't stop anyone. Interesting note: If St Louis beats Seattle on Sunday, then no team in the NFC West will have a losing record. The division is already guaranteed to have everyone finish with less than 10 losses. The only other division that can have everyone finish with less than 10 losses is the AFC East, if Buffalo wins they finish 7-9.

Jon Gruden's not going to be riding into DC on a white horse and getting them to the Super Bowl. It takes a lot more than just that to do it. Who's gonna win the #1 pick? Texans fans are just begging the team to screw up on more week.

I don't know why the Cowboys tried to do some sort of gamesmanship with "He MIGHT play!". I'm pretty sure everyone knew Romo wasn't going to play since herniated discs are serious business and you'd have to be an idiot to allow someone to play a game with one.

Chris Johnson said there's "no way" he'd accept a pay cut for the 2014 season, and that his 2013 struggles have been a "team effort." Team effort that he went from elite RB to well this is the whole teams fault. Chris can only blame himself but what changed so much for a couple years ago from being amazing to sucking out loud so fast? Hell even on a bad Team the RB can still have awesome numbers. Steven Jackson did it for years with the Rams. Adrian Peterson had great numbers the last two years on a team that I wouldn't call great and hell last season he put up record numbers when he was COMING off a huge injury as started at less then 100% and at less then 100% AP still average better numbers then Chris. Face it he got his money and now he feel you can phone it in with a hiccup of good in a season. That's what as happened with him and helping the team to have money to improve nope of course he not going to do it.

It's no different from how the Patriots list a bunch of players as probable (ie: Tom Brady for most of his career) on their injury report when no one believes he's not going to play. It doesn't really hurt anything to not say.

@profootballtalk Speculation from our friends in Chicago is that the Bears announcement is either a Cutler contract or Peanut Tillman retiring.

So when voters select an NFL MVP, they vote for only one person. Barring something crazy happening, Peyton Manning is going to be the unanimous most valuable player. However, what if the vote were handled the way the BBWAA handles the MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year votes, i.e. a first-place vote nets 14 points, second-place nine, third-place eight, fourth-place seven and fifth-place six? What would your ballot look like?
Here's mine:
1. Peyton Manning - It's an obvious choice. He's having one of the single greatest seasons for a quarterback in league history. He broke the single-season touchdown record, he's nearing the single-season passing yards record, he's only thrown 10 interceptions and although he's got a loaded offense around him, he's still responsible for getting the ball to his receivers.
2. Tom Brady - Probably a controversial runner-up, because he got off to a poor start, and he doesn't have his usually gaudy numbers. However, what he's managed to accomplish given the receiving corps around him could put this season on par with 2006 as one of his best overall years. With any other quarterback, including Manning, the Patriots aren't 11-4 and a win away from a first-round bye. With any other quarterback throwing to this group of receivers, they're scrapping with Miami to win the AFC East on the final week of the season.
3. Russell Wilson - He's spectacular at nothing, but he's great at everything. He's not the dynamic runner that RG3 is (or was), he doesn't have the cannon arm like Drew Brees or the precision passing like Tom Brady. But he's got a little bit of everything and he's a big reason for why the Seahawks are in the position they're in.
4. Nick Foles - He took over for Mike Vick in what people perceived as an offense tailor-made for a burner like Vick. Since then, he's thrown 25 touchdowns to only two interceptions and the Eagles find themselves a win away from the NFC East crown.
5. Luke Kuechly - It's always a pleasure for a football fan to see an absolute game-changer on defense like Kuechly. In this era of NFL football, where Roger Gooddell has made defense is a four-letter word, Kuechly has put up a phenomenal season. Beyond the stats, including the 146 tackles, it's what Kuechly does for the Panthers defense that has Carolina in the playoffs as a legitimate threat. In January and February, defense takes on a much more important role, and as the key to the Carolina defense, Kuechly could have a big say in where the Panthers find themselves in the postseason.

NFL.com's Gil Brandt believes South Carolina junior DE Jadeveon Clowney needs an NFL coach with a "strong makeup that will make Clowney perform on a consistent basis."
NFL.com's Albert Breer wrote that South Carolina junior DE Jadeveon Clowney's draft appraisal "isn't so much a skills assessment as it is a psychological evaluation."
Just how passionate is Clowney about the sport? "There are two ways of thinking about it," said a college director. "You could say, now, he's just going to playing the game, he doesn't need to worry about not getting hurt and making it anymore, and he'll feel more comfortable now that it's football only and he won't be concerned about the draft and he can just play ball like he did his first two years. Or you could say, 'Now that he's getting paid, is he gonna coast?' That's the question you have to answer."
