I know we have a separate NFL thread, but rather than lump this in with that, I wanted to make this own topic:
What was your favorite NFL season overall? I don't mean just your team, but I mean from an overall perspective.
Mine was 1998, a true crossroads.
Past and future icons crossed paths- This was the first year of Peyton Manning and Randy Moss and the final year for John Elway and Barry Sanders.
Standout teams- Broncos/Vikings were 1A/1B as dominant teams, Jets were very good, the Dirty Bird Falcons, last hurrah of the Green Bay-San Francisco-Dallas trifecta that dominated the NFC in the 90s.
So many QB stories- Steve Young putting up ridiculous numbers for his age (4,170 yards in a year only 1 other QB threw for 4,000 yards + 36 TD's), the remarkable comebacks of Randall Cunningham and Vinny Testaverde, Doug Flutie in Buffalo.
Rise and fall- You had teams like the Steelers/Chiefs/Lions fall off after many good years in the decade, the Jaguars/Dolphins were solid, and the surprising Arizona Cardinals.

Homer Answer: 1999
Personal Answer: 2007
The Rams sucked that year, horribly, but we did get a nice victory over the Saints in New Orleans. The Patriots though running roughshod through the NFL. The games against Philly, Baltimore and New York both times still stand out to me. The finale was great.
2008 would be a close second. I felt like a kid again watching Kurt Warner lead the Cardinals to the Super Bowl. Had they beaten Pittsburgh, it would've gone down as the best for me.

They all end badly.

I'm too young to really remember the '85 season for the Bears.... so my favorite has to be 2006. That Bears team was fun to watch.

The 1994 Season was my favorite since it was the only Niner Superbowl season I was old enough to remember. I was 7 years old and my hatred for the Cowboys was at its zenith. I remember being so happy watching my guy Steve Young run through Candlestick Park on his victory lap.
2011 was another highlight for me even though it ended in heartbreak at the NFC title game. Watching the 49ers finally reemerge as a force after 9 years of being terrible was a dream come true. Alex Smith beating the Saints in the playoffs is one of my favorite Niner moments ever.

1995-1996.. senior year of high school, Cowboys hitting their zenith at their last championship.. of course I loved 92-93 as well. And if Jerrah hadn't have been stupid and driven off Jimmy, they'd have won in 1994 as well (as they almost did after spotting the hated Niners 21 points); so there would have been at least four straight, if not a couple more.
But yeah, the 95-95 season was my favorite.

2007. Beating the patriots making them 18-1 and seeing Eli finally get his due. Also seemed a lot less flukey then the 2011 team

2006 and 2001 for me.
2006 was probably the year I was most proud to be a Chicago Bear fan. Even though they lost the Super Bowl, I have fond memories of that team, because it was the only time I was confident in almost every game that the Bears were going to win, since they had quite an awesome defense, despite the whole "Good Rex- Bad Rex" stuff that was going on at the time.
2001, I was much younger, I didn't follow message boards on the internet, and didn't care what outside pundits thought about my team. It was just as good to just await the pregame show every Sunday and watch the Bears play. And as it turned out, the Bears were magical that year.

2005 Steelers left for dead, win the last 4 games to make the 6 seed. Beat a Bengals team that I hated first round, scored a huge upset over the Colts with my biggest football markout moment coming when Vanderjagt missed the game tying FG at the end, make it to the Super Bowl for the first time in a decade and win it for the first time in my lifetime. Nothing will ever top the feeling I had at the end of that season.

I'm a Buccaneers fan, so I have to go with 2002. That team had the greatest defense I've ever seen, a dependable offense who rarely turned the ball over and even a solid kicker in Martin Gramatica. The NFC Championship Game in which they finally beat the hated Eagles and the Super Bowl victory over Jon Gruden's former team capped off Tampa Bay's first ever major sports championship. Week in and week out, this 14/15-year-old fan loved watching the 2002 Bucs play their brand of football.
Now, 11 years later, Super Bowl XXXVII remains the Buccaneers' last playoff victory. At least we have the Rays. (And the Lightning.)
