Yeah, they're just thought bubbles. I think he "talked" in a few specials, especially the musical ones.

I thought it was thought bubbles like Garfield? He seems to at least talk to Woodstock.

Snoopy just has an inner voice, which sounds like Leonardo. But no, he doesn't "talk" talk.

wait Garfield doesn't talk? Exactly. THE HORRIBLE MOVIES NEVER HAPPENED. It was Bob Holly: The Movie, and Bob Holly: A Tale of Two Sparkies.

Stealing the show, my mom wouldn't know her pup. Class? Yes! Style? Yes! Out front by a mile? Yes! Look me up in the dog's Who's Who! Gonna be hearing from Snoopy. Pardon my beagle, but WHOOPEE!!! Now I'm the Biiiiiig Bow Wooooooow. Oh yeah!

On a related topic: I saw a local production of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, and because Snoopy was played by a girl, they made his character female in general.

Garfield does not talk. You're hearing his thoughts. Without a voice actor putting his thoughts into audible words, the strip wouldn't work in animated form because so much of it center's around Garfield's inner monologue. If he is able to communicate something to Jon while "talking," it's because Jon picks up on his body language. This is why from time to time, he can "say" something and have a human character act completely oblivious to it.

I remember seeing this when I was younger and thinking it was an offense to God to hear Snoopy "speak" on an animated special. Also, "sounds like Leonardo"........ ......*checks imdb*..... ....yup, he sure does.
