Where did the idea that its only appropriate to drink eggnog one month a year come from? Other foods generally associated with Christmas are sold year-round, why not eggnog?

Because elf jizz can only be harvested 6 weeks before Christmas.
I believe it was originally a drink served during winter time and used to toast special occasions. Like a winter champagne, maybe? So X-mas became the time people really wanted it to celebrate.

Because, quite frankly you have to be pissed in the first place to be convinced to drink the foul stuff in the first place.

Well, it's almost the same reason why General Mills only distributes the Monster Cereals around Halloween-time.

Well, it's almost the same reason why General Mills only distributes the Monster Cereals around Halloween-time. This, I'm sure we can go into economics and supply and demand, but to break into down to basics it's that companies only produce certain items during the year because there's enough interest to cover costs of producing the item. The McRib is similar, but McDonald's sells those when pork prices are low enough to cover costs.

I will admit that post-Halloween, I went to some stores to buy some of those cereals during their clearance sales. I even notice some people selling those cereals on eBay (I kid you not). I enjoy those cereals, and I really can see why some people would want to eat them when it isn't Halloween-time.

The answer is simple.
The government only allows Eggnog for 30 days, and then the government takes it away.

I admit my depth of knowledge comes from the micro-economics course I took last semester (I'm majoring in poli. sci. and econ. at college) so other people who have a better idea might want to jump in. There could be another factor such as the resources used to produce the Halloween cereal during Halloween could be better used elsewhere during the rest of the year. But generally when questions like this pop up it's important to remember a) a business main objective is to maximize profit and b) a business will only enter the market (produce the item) if they feel there's a potential for profit.

Because as awesome as it is it is also really unhealthy and if we sold year round we would see a huge spike in eggnog related deaths.

First of all, the only re-emergences that I saw were of Frute Brute and Fruity Yummy Mummy. Second of all, Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Franken Berry have been around for years and to be quite frank, I NEVER see Count Chocula sold year-round, nor do I see the other two sold year-round.
