Serious answer: in terms of transcending wrestling, no- at least not yet. He's one of the biggest draws WHY did Ziggler dye part of his hair pink? Who told him that looked good? Sorry, watching Smackdown.
Ok, in terms of transcending wrestling seriously, Dolph? Was that some of backstage rib or did you lose a bet? Is that a regional thing?
- in the history of WWE, both due to his own and WWE's abilities. But as big of a fan as I am of his, I'm not so caught up in my hagiography of him to say he's more important than Hogan, Austin or Rock or even Bruno.
If he just dyed all his hair pink or just the bangs or the tips, it'd look a lot better honesty.
(Focus Clash, focus.) Though in terms of the best performers WWE's ever had, he's easily one of the greatest ever, or at least up there in the HBK conversations. Beat his ass, Randy. I'm all for uniqueness, but that looks stupid.

I think Ziggler dyed the hair pink just for the camera shot of him laying there after Orton kicked the crap out of him after the match. It loooked like his brains were seeping out of his SKULL!

He's inarguably on the short list now; but the criteria would be so nebulous and vary so much from person to person that it'd be impossible to pick a singular BEST one guy of all time anyway. In my view he's not, and perhaps never will be THE top guy, but he's certainly in the conversation now.

I'm all for uniqueness, but that looks stupid. I think I just scared my neighbors I was laughing so hard. That was a great post. Cutting through the Dolph's hair part, I think you are on to something, and I agree that we've still got some time to go with Cena. He's not done yet, however, huge shoes to fill, to say the least. Bruno is different, at least in my mind, because he was still viewed as a "sports star" and not a "pro wrestler". The man was as big in the New York area as any professional athlete. He wasn't just over, he was a mainstream sports star. Hogan was the 80's pop culture hit, the perfect topping to the MTV Sundae. It was more show, less sport, but even people who didn't know or watch wrestling knew Hogan's name, face, and mannerisms. Different from Bruno, but same result. Austin had the pop culture appeal, again during a boom period, but his popularity lit the fuse on the WWF resurgence. His character, and Rock's as well, were epitomes of 90's culture. The arrogant jock who backs up his trash talk and the beer chugging, cammo wearing self-proclaimed redneck. Austin was the stereotypi8cal wrestling fan (white trash redneck according to many) with the attitude and bar-fighting bravado turned up to like 40. Essentailly, Austin's gimmick was "Don't like wrestling? Well f*** you" (kick, finger, stunner, drink, repeat). People knew who he was that didn't watch, I'd have non fans say "Dude, that's like the anti-Hulk Hogan, that's kinda cool" frequently. They may not sit down to watch, but they knew who he was. Cena, at this point, is somewhere between Backlund and Micheals pre injury. He's the guy the company has hitched to (as they did for 6 years with Bob), who the fans react to, who can be name dropped and some of the talk show audience gets it, but aren't on the "I don't watch that, but even I know who THAT is" level. No shame in it, maybe 5 or 6 guys in the last 35 years can say that.

I honestly don't see anyone, now or in the future, surpassing Hogan when it comes to mainstream recognition of what a pro wrestler is.
