Just saw it tonight, and honestly...it's a DAMN good film the kind that honestly...if Leonardo DiCapro DOESN'T Win best Actor for.....I don't think he ever will. Beautifully shot, acted, written, paced, I see this thing sweeping the awards....
Or losing to The Monuments Men.

He was outstanding as Jordan Belfort. The whole movie is great; I can't recommend it enough.

I really want to see this after seeing the trailer. I normally don't go for Wall Street based movies, but this one looks damn good. On paper Leo and Jonah Hill aren't a great duo, but it seems like they work well together for this movie.

DiCaprio should've won an Academy Award for Blood Diamond. I may end up checking this movie out. I've heard nothing but great things about it.

From what I've heard (on twitter) some academy judges won't watch it.

saw it thursday. i loved this movie.
i liked seeing the people come who I knew were unaware of the films story or content. Namely the teenagers and couples that brought their kids whether they were under ten or under 18. there were some that left with the first scene which i think was a warning to the part of the audience who weren't prepared for the content.
Other than that the movie was awesome. More motivational than a cautionary tale of what can happen and has happened and is happening. Well at least to me. A little self control and and knowing when to get out would have saved him from himself. I guess that kind of self-destructive personality goes hand ambition and audacity in that profession.
One of my favorite scenes used one of my favorite songs by Billy Joel when they were introducing Shane's (I will always use his Walking Dead character name) character.
I kind of feel that this will be the evolution of epic gangster movies. The stories of Economic Mobsters.

I don't want to read the rest of the thread because spoilers aren't hidden on the App, & I definitely want to see the movie. I'll end up renting it when it comes to Red Box. I actually like DiCaprio ever since I saw him in Catch Me If You Can, so I was expecting a good showing here.

Probably the most hyped I've been for a Scorsese and DiCaprio film in ages.
Something about doing Django must have unleashed something in DiCaprio because he was on fire in that and looks to be solid gold in this one.

From what I've heard (on twitter) some academy judges won't watch it. It's their loss. Is there a LOT of Nudity in it? .....Yes. Does it somewhat romanticize 80s Excess ? Oh...Hell Yes. Should it really be rated NC-17 to prevent kids from seeing it ? Sadly.....yeah. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}The Movie literally starts with Leo getting road head and then Doing blow off a whore's ass.

People are gonna hate me for saying this, but, I don't get this movie's appeal. A movie about the stock market? Yeah...my Dad would be bored after only 40 minutes.
The last "artsy" movie I recall seeing ever was Zero Dark Thirty (Which I really liked, even if by the two-hour mark, it gets slightly tedious.), so there's that.

Monuments Men got bumped until February, which makes it ineligible for this year's Oscars and is also an indication it's not exactly an Oscar candidate for next year, either. Oscars are being tentatively hyped as a showdown between 12 Years A Slave and Gravity at this point, with the Best Actor race already jammed up by a triple threat of Ejiofor, Redford and Dern, with Hanks lurking on the outside. It's gotten fair response from critics and a pretty crummy one from audiences, so unless the film and Leo pull huge upsets at the Golden Globes (the only 2 noms it got), I wouldn't place any early bets on it racking up the Oscars this year.

I disliked this movie. It was Goddfellas + Catch Me If You Can - character arc. Some good performances, but ultimately a pointless movie. {Spoiler} The story of a guy who got massively rich swindling people, ratted on his friends, and ultimately became a successful public speaker. The movie spends 3 hours building up a giant asshole, but doesn't deliver on his fall. What's the point? It's HHH pinning Booker T at Wrestlemania, and maybe getting a pie in the face.

It's a true story, he can't exactly lie. Scorcese was more or less showing what money does to some people, and how people on Wall Street really are invincible. Just look at the shot of Kyle Chandler near the end (not really a spoiler), it's obvious there. I do think this was Leo's best performance and Scorcese's best movie in a long time, just because it reminded me a lot of Goodfellas in a way and showed how a scumbag like Belfort could so easily get away with the shit he did in our current economic climate.

The film is about addiction, more than anything. The stock stuff, well even DiCaprio's character addresses that no one gives a shit about the financial talk when he Zack Morris's.
I liked it though. HIGHLY entertaining. DiCaprio got to combine What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Titanic, The Departed and even the charisma factor of Django all into one role.
Jonah Hill was a f***ing beast in this one. The guy who plays Shane in Walking Dead did a good job too.
The were a few moments were I was like, "Wow, what am I watching here?" because Scorsese really took his time with stuff.
Overall though, it was a damn well executed dark comedy and the longest commercial for ludes I've ever seen.

Yeah that's kind of the point, in real life there are often no repercussions for those at the top and as noted it is based on a true story so if Scorsese changed it up he'd essentially be lying to his audience. I think it is the polar opposite of a pointless film, especially in light of events that have occurred since 2008.

Just saw this at the matinee and will outright say it was the best movie of 2013 I saw, at the cinema. Also the funniest. I laughed more consistently throughout than Anchorman 2 or This Is The End. It's Scorsese's best since the Departed, and quite possibly Leo's best work, on film, today. The man deserves an Oscar for his scene doing the 'lude crawl to the lamborghini, alone. One of the finest acts of physical comedy I've seen, in ages.

I don't know. From the ads it looks like a film glorifying the greedy wall street fat cats. Not really into films that celebrate the people that made a mess of the economy.
