I remember watching it back and thinking 'Wow, the best people in that show were Bulk and Skull' because I never realised how bad the acting was, don't get me wrong the fight scenes were awesome and it still holds a nostalgic value for me, but the acting of Austin St. John and the other Rangers seemed to be slightly flat, did anyone else feel the same way?
At least the guy who played Lord Zedd did a pretty good job on the role.

Lord Zedd was great. The villains in general were. Rita was great Ham & Cheese, Squatt & Baboo were fine comedic sidekicks, and Goldar was good before he became a joke by season 3.
At least the acting kinda improved between the pilot and the actual TV show:
The most half-assed morph you've EVER seen.

it's pretty much a requirement for all Power rangers villains to be enormous hams.

The reason why Bulk and Skull were the best actors on the show for the most part was because Paul Schier (sp?) and Jason Narvey were actually classically trained actors with a background in stage before coming into Power Rangers.

Having rewatched some of it on Netflix recently, I'm convinced that the Rangers are much worse bullies than Bulk and Skull. The Rangers kids are supposed to be so mature and responsible, so they should be well aware how Bulk and Skull are clearly unhappy children with nothing but each other making desperate attempts to get attention, but EVERY episode ends with them falling over and the Rangers laughing at them. What jerks.

If you're watching Power Rangers for fine acting performances then you're doing it wrong.

What jerks. They mostly fixed that by the end of the second season, once they ended up saving them a couple of times. The potion one from Season 3 sticks out the most. Though, one of the funnier endings from Season 1 was the one with the Nightmare crystal, where Bulk and Skull told them if they flunked out, they would have to go to summer school and be taught by the 6 best students. And they were laughing, right until Tommy slowly realized who the 6 best students were, shut up, and just rushed them to help.

The acting in the movie is Oscar worthy, if I may say so myself. Ivan Ooze= GOAT villain.

Well, it's not like they had a lot of inspiration. They were given half a script to act out, then given lines to go record in a booth to be dubbed over the spliced-in Zyuranger footage. It was a choppy mess that only worked because the audience was kids.
That said, I still love the shit out of that show. Also, if you're looking for the most wooden Ranger acting ever, look no further than Johnny Yong Bosch in season 2. Holy shit did he suck until Zeo.

I can't even call the acting in MMPR bad anymore after watching both samurai and megaforce.
That pilot morphing sequence is oscar contender acting compared to those 2 seasons.

But to be honest, my favorite villains were the "femme fatale eye candy" like Scorpina, Astronema, Trakeena, etc.
