In today's weekly wrestling, the rub is overrated. It has much more to do with a guy being constantly booked well then getting a rub.

Cut a promo telling CM Punk that he was one of if not the best champion of modern times, say he NEEDS to beat John Cena to cement his legacy as a great himself by going over 3 generations of the BEST wrestlers of their generations, put The Shield over by being attacked by them and not getting a hand up to defend himself, put R-Truth over by selling his offense like death in the tag match... Honestly, The Rock is one of the few guys in pro-wrestling to -in winning or losing- make every competitor look like a threat to his life & standing, people don't seem to be able to understand that determined wrestler Rock is the other side of the coin as catchphrase fan drawer Rock. Just because he makes jokes (which get desired reactions) doesn't mean he doesn't go from those to serious subjects. He does what 90% of wrestlers can't, he puts over wrestling (and all wrestlers he faces) as a dangerous competitive sport, whilst managing to entertain people through various levels of humour. Pretty much exactly what I was going to come in here and say. Seriously, Rock ALWAYS put his opponent over. People who say that he didn't are practicing some major revisionist history.

Okay, he doesn't "have" to, but if he ever comes back, it would be nice if he did. I'd rather watch The Rock vs. Daniel Bryan/Cody Rhodes/The Miz than see a "dream match" against someone who doesn't need the rub. so you'd prefer Rock/Bryan over " Once Twice Thrice in a Lifetime"? there's a reason WWE isn't letting you book What's laughable is he tries to put the Miz over.

If anything, The Rock is way less selfish about his losses than a guy like Hogan or Triple H. Can you see either of those guys putting over the Hurricane the way the Rock did when he didn't have to? To be fair, while the Hurricane did beat the rock, his win came via interference by Austin after pretty much getting his ass kicked for the majority of the match. Let's not pretend that the Rock lost clean to the Hurrichokeslam. Which is for the best really. There are times when putting people over clean just looks stupid and is forgotten. Like when Kozlov beat Taker with a powerslam reversing old school, in build to HBK/Taker at mania. Sometimes it's best to stick to wrestling tropes and have the appropriate amount of dirty finish when the lesser guy is going over.

In today's weekly wrestling, the rub is overrated. It has much more to do with a guy being constantly booked well then getting a rub. "The rub" is still valuable, but it only matters if it's (A) Given to someone who could use that little extra something, and (B) Followed up with good booking. A super-over Daniel Bryan beat John Cena clean, but it didn't make much of a difference because he got stuck in a horrible feud with Orton and Trips. Almost ten years earlier, a super-over Cena beat Big Show for a title at WrestleMania and got consistently good booking afterwards--and it only helped to elevate him.

I would like to see Rock face younger guys who are at the verge of breaking into superstardom and put them over. Cena was already a huge star when Rock put him over. I would've liked to see Dolph Ziggler vs. Rock or Miz vs. Rock, but after what WWE did to them, I guess Rock would be better off against Lesnar or Triple H at this point.

It's always annoyed me when people claim this happened.

A lower midcarder like Hurricane beating Rock is still pretty damn impressive. Interference or not.
If it were a lot of other guys, they'd still find a way to win.

I hated how people acted like the Rock was some kind of sellout the first time he left. He was called all types of names for leaving just because he wanted to pursue other things in his life. One of the most annoying things was seeing people calling him that it was like you couldn't leave when you wanted to only when the fans say you can. Just BS.

Came in here to say the Shield, and he never got revenge either. When JBL is hyping them he always references that they took out Taker and the Rock.
