There was this bad ass monster heel that everybody hated. This person had been beating people left right and centre, until this person took on this really over baby face. This person already lost to the monster heel, but they felt they had a better game plan and was going to take that monster heel to the limit, and did. The crowd was going crazy, even though they were the huge underdog, that person fought an incredible match but in the end, it was no use and the monster heel ended up winning.
That sounds like a great pro wrestling match, and it would have been had it not been between Rounda Rousey and Miesha Tate. That was amazing, and the crowd was going apeshit. They had a great story going into it, the underdog baby face took the monster heel further then she's ever been taken, but in the end, the monster heel got the big win.
I'm shocked people say that the fan base of MMA and pro wrestling are completely different, or that even pro wrestling and MMA are two completely different entities, and that's what I feel happens sometimes. UFC has used so many concepts from WWE and added it as apart of their shows, but I don't think WWE or even a lot of indy promotions want to do the same thing, which is why I put this in the wrest section. It's not that the matches have to be these shoot style contests (though Shiabata and Sakuraba in New Japan put on good "shoot" style matches). Probably the match with the best build similar to an MMA fight was Joe vs Angle for Lockdown 2008, which did a decent buyrate for TNA standards. It's how everything is built, and MMA just happens to have moments of serendipity. Even the main event, you had this long reigning champion be defeated by this hot new challenger, and people were wondering if it was a fluke or not, and wanted to see the rematch. Sadly, it ended pretty badly and not what people were expecting, but the UFC card had two of the best pro wrestling style builds and pro wrestling will never want to try and do something like that with the two main events tonight.
And another thing on top of it is the idea that women's wrestling can't draw, or that it's a bad form of pro wrestling. The only reason it's viewed in a poor light is because Velvet Sky and Brie Bella are seen as top contenders for titles. This had an amazing build, and no doubt would have been the main event if Silva didn't lose earlier this year, and was even the best fight on the card. So yeah, that's two rants. The incredible similarities between pro wrestling and MMA, and women being a draw.
