Two guys that were good on the mic (but not great), "was the guy that worked THE guy", had good number of memorable moments/great matches, and a crap load of world title reigns. But purely looking at their overall abilities as performers, at their respective peaks who was better?

What a strange comparison to make.

Edge was good in those ladder matches, but Trips in the cells. hmmm I'll go with Triple H

Dunno why we compare these two of all people, but to me, it's Edge in a landslide. Trips is a good talker and got a great mind for diz bizniz, but in the ring, he is very adept at pulling his opponents down to his level of mediocrity (see his matches against Punk, Orton, or Taker). It takes bump machines like HBK and Foley to get a classic out of him.
Edge, on the other hand, may not have been as heavily pushed, but he owns Hunner in the ring.

At their peak? I'll go with Triple H. But Edge was better for a longer time.
Better overall performer, I say Edge.

Edge was more fun to watch, where as watching Triple H sometimes felt like a chore.

Triple H was legitimately one of the best in the world in-ring in 2000 and 2001 (well, the part of 2001 he was actually around for), but has mostly been boring and sluggish ever since his first quad tear. Edge never hit a peak that high, but was consistently good for a longer time, and was great from basically 2005 until his retirement. So I'd have to give the nod to Edge.

The sad thing is both men's performance peak was before they became bonafide main-eventers. Trips had the better singles career though I'd say, it's just the WWE has totally forgotten how good he was as the upper mid-carder and stable leader to push the all time great main eventer idea.

I'm another who think Trips was better before the quad tear, and Edge was better after.

Triple H. Better wrestler, better timing, better look, better character, and better mic work.
I must get a paycheck from the Authority or something, but it's the first thing that came to my mind.

Hard comparison to make because they're very different in just about everything. I'm gonna say Edge because he was always more versatile in my eyes, Triple H from ~2003 onwards has basically been wrestling like a best of the 80s tape stuck on rewind whereas Edge always switched up his game up to like his last 3 years.

I think one of the things we have to keep in mind is that Edge's entire main event heel run happened after he was out for a year with a neck injury that eventually made him retire early. Makes you wonder just how good he could have been if he never had that neck injury?
I also seem to remember Edge getting comparisons to surfer Sting during his run in 2002 being paired up with Hogan and feuding with Kurt Angle. That's a pretty huge compliment.
With that said, while I don't think Triple H was a slouch in the ring, I think the answer here is Edge and it's not even close.

Triple H, hands down, and I'm legitimately shocked by the poll results.
Once again, I have to say, that Reign of Terror really affected people's overall view on Triple H.

edge because he is more adaptable to different styles. Like I don't think HHH and Rey Mysterio could have that good of a match

As opposed to a few of the other posters I think this is an interesting comparison to make. These two are hardly ever compared.
I think Edge just pips HHH talent wise.

I don't even like HHH, but HHH is a better performer than Edge.
They're both comparable wrestlers (i.e, just a little above mediocre) but HHH was better at selling a match and living out the story.
Both cut 7/10 level promos.
