So you're telling me, that these council races, YEARS before humans ever came into the picture, came up with the name and acronym SPECTRE? An acronym based on the english/human language? That doesn't make sense, unless the universal translators have specific names depending on each race.
Was this ever explained?

I always took it as a happy occurrence based on language differences. Kind of like how we called the Soviet Union the USSR, but they called themselves the CCCP.
I don't recall it being explained.

So do psychic powers (as in telepathy, I'm not counting biotics) exist in Mass Effect or don't they? Like with Reaper indoctrination they go out of their way to say that it's just nanomachines+mind control signal given off by all Reaper artifacts (which is questionable, but still somewhat grounded) but on the other hand you have the Rachni which are a full on telepathic hivemind and can even "talk" to other species. And then there's the asari who appearantly have some innate ability that always make them look like sexy blue females of the observer's species, no matter if you're human, salarian or turian.
