When I first heard of the death at the end, I had no idea the context of it and immediately assumed the worst since everyone was going so nuts about it. Once I saw it, it made much much MUCH more sense and turned me face against all the detractors. For me, the more and more I thought about the end, the more and more it annoyed me. I'm not a fan of Superman in the comics, so my annoyance doesn't stem from characterisation changes from not a killer to a killer, but more from the fact that the guy was so torn up for so much of the movie about his powers and responsibilities and father installed fear and guilt.....that he then almost proves his dad right by destroying a town and a city, killing hundreds, if not thousands, of people....only to stop for one family totally too late to do anything about the goodness knows how many other deaths. It's a massive disconnect. And let's be honest here... That family could've ran away. They're just standing there while Zod slowly turns his eye beams to them... Move dummies! There's space to run! Just go! Superman, you have complete control of Zod, just move his head slightly to the left and all of this can be avoided.

This comic is rather on point. My big problem is the massive property damage and possibly countless civillian casualties that Supes causes towards the end.
