Going through the last few days of TPIR, I saw this:
I know Bob Barker had his 90th birthday show earlier in December, but damn I wish he could have said this was a history making moment! Watch and be in awe folks!

I saw that live, it was pretty cool. Woman was just so excited to even be there, much less to win that.
Of course, it'll be around 50K in taxes before she can even claim it.

Yeah, taxes will be outrageous but that was a pretty awesome moment.

Didn't they give away a few million dollar prizes on the Price is Right?

Yes, but this is the biggest prize on the regular timeslot.
Still, what's she gonna do with an Audi R8?

Didn't they give away a few million dollar prizes on the Price is Right? They did, but all of them were in the night-time. This is the single biggest day-time prize given out, beating out the win on Pay the Rent (100K) last season.

I believe the problem is that California requires you to pay the initial taxes before you can pick it up, so you can't sell it to pay the taxes, which is why a lot of people don't pick up their prizes on game shows.
Even then, you probably wouldn't be able to sell it for MSRP since, technically, it'd be a used car. Someone with the money to buy it probably wouldn't pay you full price if they could get it from a dealer for around that.
Granted, it's not a terrible problem to have, especially if you do have the money to take possession of it.
