When I saw the thread title, I was hoping it was some kind of joke. It's just... damn! RIP Uncle Phil/Shredder. Yeah, what a way to start of 2014.

Never saw Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but I loved him as Shredder. He was why I never got tired of Shredder no matter how many more times than necessary they used him in the 80s TMNT series. He will be missed.

Just like Savage's passing, big part of my childhood died.
R.I.P. Avery, I hope you knew of the countless people you brought joy and fond memories to over the years. Unlike other black celebs that have passed, hopefully folks wont get it wrong in thinking that the father from family matters died.

From CNN (CNN) -- Actor James Avery, who played the beloved Uncle Phil on the hit 1990s sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," died Tuesday, his publicist confirmed. He was 65. His "Fresh Prince" co-star Alfonso Ribeiro tweeted news of Avery's passing. "I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away," Riberio tweeted. "He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly. A classically trained actor and poet, Avery grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he was raised by a single mother. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and first appeared onscreen as a dancer in an uncredited role in the 1980 film "The Blues Brothers." "I knew I loved the arts," Avery said in an interview for the show "Unscripted." "I knew I wanted to be a writer, but the theater was something I had been involved in before." Avery appeared in multiple TV shows and movies including as the voice of Shredder in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." But his most famous role was as Phillip Banks, the stern but loving uncle to Will Smith's character on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." www.cnn.com/2014/01/01/showbiz/celebrity-news-gossip/james-avery-obit/index.htmlRIP Uncle Phil you will always be my favorite tv dad

Ouch. Right in the feels. I grew up watching both Fresh Prince and TMNT, so this one hits closer to home. Loved Uncle Phil. Happy New Years everybody.

I'd imagine he's St. Peter's enforcer and lawyer who throws misbehaving people in Heaven out of the gates and lets them back in when they learnt their lesson. RIP Uncle Phil Reading on how his wife found about his death just sounds so horrible

A terrible loss for a lot of our childhoods. Uncle Phil is and was my favorite Fresh Prince character.
