Just a question. Got a new laptop that has enough specs to do PC gaming. I'm wondering if the Xbox 360 controller for Windows will work on future PC Games that'll be released on the Xbox One and not on the 360 for the future/

That will depend on the game, won't it? It should probably work for a lot of them, though, but this is admittedly not my area of expertise.

Most likely, even if it doesn't you can bet someone will write a hack for it. I'm assuming that eventually the Steam Controller will be the go-to pad but that'll be a few years yet.

I can't imagine why not. The X1 controller doesn't have any additional buttons, and Microsoft doesn't gain anything by forcing people to use it instead of the 360 gamepad.

Another convert to the PC master race! I don't see why it wouldn't work. The input should be the same, regardless of the game.

If they use the same xinput standard I see no reason why it would stop. As people said before the Xbox One controller does not have any additional buttons so the chances are some time in the future Microsoft will release xinput drivers for the Xbox One controller and start selling it for PC gamers.

But it's Microsoft so who knows? As for the question, yes it should. The xbox 360 controller for windows is SUPPOSE to work for any game that allows for a gamepad. Only thing that would change that in the future is if a company decides that only one specific gamepad is allowed to be used with their games, and that has not happened yet, and likely wont.

I just recently bought a wired one for $40. I couldn't find it any cheaper than that, though there may be some sales on it now.

I've got a PS3 controller via bluetooth to my PC (which was a pain to set up I might add), but in the app to configure it I've tricked the computer in to thinking it's a 360 controller (each button on ds3 functions as corresponding button on 360 controller) as it seems as if some games contain native support for 360 controllers (Left 4 dead 2 does for example, it mapped the buttons correctly for me exactly the same as the 360 version without me doing anything, and on screen it displays the corresponding 360 button when prompting what buttons to press)
I think I'm going to get one of those wireless adapters for my 360 controller soon though. Then I can choose between keyboard and mouse (need a new mouse, using some shitty logitech wireless one is not good in Half Life 2), 360 controller and Dual Shock 3 based on the game.

I've been meaning to pick up a wired 360 controller for the PC games I have that use it and don't get along with my PS2 controller. Generally I prefer wired over wireless because less chance of input lag rearing its ugly head.
Just remember that any wired 360 controller will work with PC's. It's just the wireless ones that need the specific "for Windows" one as they come with the little wireless dongle so it works.

The only difference the X1 controller really has is the rumble in the triggers.

It may gain traction with the developers but I think users will be a bit weary at first. First it will be if the pad is any good, then it will be what is it best used for, then it will be will the thing even work on my old games or will I have to map it myself. Like I don't see how that pad will ever work for fighting games, there's no d-pad and there's no face buttons, seems inefficient.
