Rooster Teeth/Achievement Hunter Llllllllllllet's Play!s are hilarious. I don't miss a single one daily. With guys like Achievement Hunter & NewLegacyInc, it's actually them just using the game as a backdrop for humour since they have pretty good chemistry together. They're not playing through a story, they're just goofing about and having fun.

Yeah, I fully admit I follow Two Best Friends and I keep tabs on new Legacy; the games are usually just window dressing to the overall humor or riffing that goes on, so it's easy to have fun with.
If it's somebody playing a game and just showing it off, I really have no interest, but it's kind of become it's own style of humor, in the right hands.

Of the top of my head, my favorite Let's Plays are: Snatcher, the Metroid Prime and Dead to Rights games by slowbeef & Diabetus The Metal Gear Solid games by Chip Cheezum & General Ironicus
What they have in common is that they (except for individual parts with guests) consists of one person who knows the game (usually, but not always the one who plays, or did play and recorded it before the commentary), with the other one seeing it for the first time and being the audience surrogate.

These things are all about the personality behind the microphone(s). That's why most of them suck. I always recommend the GameInformer "Super Replay" series because of the chemistry of the staff. They're a bit older (late 20s, 30s), so it's less random/offensive humor, and they have Dan Ryckert: a massive wrestling fan who somehow works a reference into any sort of game they're playing. He also likes to jokingly compare games to Uncharted if they have even a hint of platforming. Tim Turi is usually stuck playing the bad games, so his reactions are hilarious, and Andrew Reiner is the straight-man keeping it all together and somewhat on task. Somewhat. I really enjoy their format.
They're doing Illbleed on Dreamcast right now. I don't know if that's a truly bad game or not (gonna watch it tonight), but they purposely pick bad games and games that have awful/strange voice-acting/controls to do for their annual New Year's Eve full play-through.

I like to watch the ones with females in them cause the chicks are often cute and nerdy and I can post on their pages and they can ignore me.

Illbleed is a pretty decent game, but the voice acting is a bit weird, if I recall, so it might be chosen more for that in this case.

I don't have a favorite and some are just awful. But it is my routine now.
I see an interesting game on Steam and I look for a lets play, watch the game being played for a bit then decide whether I am going to buy. I don't know if people follow the LP's but I don't really.
You cant read reviews if you want, but for a game to actually be a 9 or 90, it has to be at Metal Gear Solid's "level" when it was first released, not a clone of MOH.

I don't really watch them, as you find people try to force comedy too much. NLinc can be a bit hit and miss for me, as some of the folks seem to get a bit attention seeking when the others have got a good back and forth going and it just grind my gears.
The only one I watch consistently is Game Grumps, and that's not really a Let's Play channel.
Oh, and Retsuparae, but again, the focus on that channel isn't the playing of the game.

As an admitted Let's Play addict, there are multiple reasons as to why I watch them. One reason is comedy, as watching stuff like Game Grumps, NerdCubed and Markiplier helps get me out of whatever bad mood I'm in. Another reason is seeing the reactions of other people playing the game, in other words, I may play a game myself and then watch a let's play of someone playing it entirely differently than I did. A big reason is seeing the games in action, as let's plays have quickly become something that interests me in buying certain games. Some let's plays are of games that I'll never get to play for various reasons, so seeing them played lets me see games I'd otherwise miss out on. Then there are informative let's plays full of trivia, serious walkthroughs, unique gameplays and more, basically a bunch of different styles of let's play, I enjoy them all.
But the main reason over everything? I find them fun. I'll never understand the hate that some people have for let's plays, they are nothing more than funny/informative/silly/serious/whatever people doing video game commentary. If people don't enjoy that that's fine, I just don't get the full-on hate I've seen some people have for them.
So yeah, TLDR: I find let's plays fun, they brighten my day when I'm in a bad mood, etc.

For me I browse through them to see how a game really is like, rather then read/watch a review by a company who for all I know might be biased or is cherry picking the top moments of the game.

I check out Let's Play type stuff when Im curious about a game before I buy it.
If I'm stuck in a game, watching a playthrough at the spot I'm at is an easy way to see what you need to do.
The bulk of my video game watching though is League of Legends or Hearthstone streaming. Watching top players do their thing and give insight into why really helps with game knowledge, and is generally pretty entertaining. My tv is almost always on Twitch if I'm not watching a movie.

There's a lot of really good ones out there, but it's an easy format to copy so there's obviously a whole lot more bad ones with zero effort or thought put into them.
I recommend looking into lparchive.org instead of going to Youtube, a ton of great ones on there. I especially recommend Jurassic Park Trespasser, the dude really knows the game and its wild production history inside and out, it's almost like a documentary accompanied by gameplay footage.

The Trespasser LP is seriously fascinating.

I just think it's ludicrous that there exists internet celebrity LPers that bank and get free games sent to them all over the place. At this point YouTube LPers have eclipsed legitimate review sites as sources of marketing. There is no faster or easier way to get your game shown to millions of people. YouTube really is half the reason Minecraft got as popular as it did.

I don't understand youtube.
It gives a huge platform to people who aren't funny in the slightest. Like literally, 90% of the videos that "trend" or whatever on there are awful.
As for this Let's play shit it's the equivalent of when I was younger and the older boy who lived next door wouldn't let me play his video games so I sat there bored out of my mind watching him play them. If I want to play games I'll play them myself, not watch someone playing them with a running commentary

YouTube is the new Public Access channel. If 99.999% of what is on YouTube was on ch.15 at 4 in the afternoon no one would care.
