I was disappointed too. All 6 previous episodes of Sherlock have been nothing short of excellent. This one fell well short of that mark. As someone else said it was incredibly disjointed. There were still some good bits but so far that is the weakest episode of Sherlock I have seen. Hopefully it picks up for the other 2 episodes.

Brit TV is good. But not when you've got Steven Moffat trolling fans and patting himself on the back over how great his shows are. That whole episode...jaw-dropping self-indulgence. Well Coupling was awesome...Moffat DID even make the last season passable after the loss of his signature character. Also, still better than the Downey Jr. movies. And I always found British TV, even at 50%, was still better than a lot of our stuff at the time. Of course, the last time I got a lot of current product was in the early 2000s...then the same PBS station bought the others in my area and pretty much just have Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By. And now, some of the newer shows I have seen are even more American (Mongrels = Family Guy with puppets, yet I still say it's better...)

It was the first episode of Sherlock I've ever watched. Didn't hate it, it was certainly entertaining.
Agree with the people who don't understand Cumberbatch's sex appeal. He's a strange-looking guy.

I thought it was a good episode. Not the strongest Sherlock episode but a nice return for the series.
Although, I didn't like that they're keeping us waiting to find out how he truly faked his death. They should have shown us at the end of the episode. Honestly, they're building it up to much I can see it been a disappointment once they finally DO reveal it.
I did like that the false deaths were some of the more popular fan theories though. That was a nice idea; but the real reveal should have happened in this episode.

I loved the episode personally, even if it was a little self-indulgent. I think it was well filmed and edited. Totally agree about not revealing the fake death at the end of the episode. Was waiting the whole time for the big reveal and then nothing. And as someone who thoroughly adores Cumberbatch - for me, it's because he's dashing.

Also, I know different strokes for different folks, but how the hell do people find Benidict Cumberbatch attractive? He looks like a Preying Mantis, or a rat that's been smacked with a shovel. It's the cheekbones. Also, he looks better with grown out hair, since it evens out his face more. Hence why Benedict-as-Sherlock is better looking than Benedict himself.

Grown out hair and cheekbones? So he's a Lich? Figures, with the whole coming back from the dead.

It was pretty awful. From the mockery of the fandom (Hey look, all those theories you made up? They're idiotic things coming from Anderson, the figure of fun from the last few series, along with a fangirl who gets immediately mocked), to the fact that they seemed to give up halfway through and watch V For Vendetta before writing the rest of the script as a crude takeoff, to the fact that we'll likely never get an explanation of the last series that's in any way plausible. Oh, and the show should just quit with the queerbaiting tactics already. We already know they won't have any LGBT characters that aren't sexy non-clothed females making bad innuendo, so they can just quit with the 'haha Sherlock/John is gay but not really!' business.

I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and I was weary of the whole "modern day Sherlock" thing when it was announced. I was pleasantly surprised with season 1 and didn't hate season 2...but this was...eh. It feels like with each season they are going further and further away from the canon. Which admittedly isn't a sin or anything, it's just not what I want to watch. And it's still better than Elementary. And the Iron Man's bastard child with Jack Sparrow movies. It wasn't bad just...I don't mind when they go balls to the wall with the plot, but the character "Sherlock" feels like it's going on a whole new direction compared to the one from the books, and that's the point where adaptations start to lose me a bit. Like "Change everything about the setting and plot if you want, but the character must ultimately develop in the same way." I know that certain aspects of canon Sherlock don't really make him the most appealing TV character in the world, but...well, you know. It's not even that this makes the series bad or anything, it's just not what I want to see. Well, I suppose there's always the Granada series for people like me

Is there really much sexual chemistry between Freeman and Cumberbatch anyway? They seem like friends...but that's it. However, the way everyone acts you'd think there were Jolie/Pitt in Mr and Mrs. Smith-levels of sparks flying every time they were in a scene together. There really isn't.
