Sac Comic ConI just read that Sacramento is hosting our first Comic Con and I was contemplating attending just because it's something different. I've never picked up a comic book nor am I hugely into movies or TV. These things always seem like they would be cool to go checkout just for the people watching aspect. After looking over the pricing for the VIP packages it seems like a rippoff though. Why in the hell would anyone pay 325$ to get an autograph from the guys that were in the Boondock Saints? So for someone who isn't really into nerdy shit would I still be able to have fun at an event like this?

Comic cons are my favorite thing in the universe. I don't mean this as a slam, but if you consider most of what goes on there to be "nerdy shit," I can't really see you enjoying it too much because that's what at least 95% of it will be.

Yeah I'm just debating on whether or not it would he worth it. For instance I never listened to rock music until I went to see Korn on a whim and I fell in love with the energy. That one experience changed my perspective on music and opened doors to things I never thought I would enjoy. I'm thinking this could be a similar experience if I keep my mind open.

I just assumed that before going, you would drink enough so that it ends being fun anyway.

Those VIP packages are more not very common, and usually something set up by greedy conventions.
That being saID, your into scifi and horror movies/tv shows, it is at least interesting to watch the panels with the stars.

It actually looks like it could be pretty cool, though there's no way in hell I'd ever pay $275 for something as pointless as photo ops and autographs. I'd go. Maybe I actually WILL go, if I can make it.

There is the possibility of sexy women in slutty comic outfits, so there's that at least.

No offense, but people doing what you're talking about is why I stopped going to San Diego Comic Con. Let us nerds have our stuff.

VIP packages are the biggest rip-off that conventions ever came up with. I say get a standard one day pass, or preferably, go to a smaller con that isn't a Wizard World, and even more preferably, one held in a hotel. The atmosphere at a con like Wizard World is very much "you're here to spend money, and we're watching you." The other type I mentioned is like a bunch of fans having a huge hotel party.

The Sheraton Grand is right next door to the convention center. There's a downstairs lounge with wide open windows at street level. I may just go hang out there and have some drinks instead of buying a ticket. The only person I would like to see would be Sheamus, but spending all the money for an autograph seems pointless. From what I'm gathering, this isn't an event like a concert where nonfans would have a good time.

Conventions are a lot of hanging around and talking to people, but I can't imagine it would be much fun to see a band you didn't like.

I don't know why, but I love seeing bands I never listen too live. I think it's because I can go in having no expectations and if I like the band I come away with a new artist to listen to. Even if I don't like the band I still like going for the experience, I saw Slayer and Megadeath and had a great time, but I still don't care for them that much.

If you like drinking, then see if there are any room parties around(people hosting parties in their hotel rooms). Although you have to know somebody within the fan community in order to know which direction to be pointed.

It's walking among other people who enjoyed the pop culture of their time. Not everyone is going to be a Wookie or a member of Star Fleet Command. I wanted to go to Wizard World last year, but Melissa Joan Hart cancelled (new baby), and I didn't think Joey Lawrence was worth $50. (My wife may or may not disagree.)
I may go this year just for the experience. And to walk among the Daleks.
