Looking back at this show, I remember enjoying it for the first 3 seasons they growing tired of it and really, only reluctantly watching it for explanations for things that happened in the past series. Looking back, the cast of characters is really really poor.
Other than a few exceptions, they are for the most part very boring and forgettable. Hurley was a likeable guy, but his character had no depth beyond fat comedy relief. Jack was god awful. Kate very annoying. Locke was interesting for the first couple of seasons then got boring. Saeed I found to be a dull character. The shaggy haired American whose name I forget, again had his moments but for the most part was pretty forgettable. The Korean couple, bland and forgettable. The Australian girl; utterly boring. The French lady, again very boring.
Really, the only characters I fondly remember are Charlie, Desmond, Dan Farraday and Ben. I also quite liked Rose, she was likeable enough but just didn't get enough screentime.
I think the very bland and forgettable character cast is part of the reason I *puts on shades* Lost interest. Especially when you compare to say, Breaking Bad which I have just finished watching which has an awesome cast. Even more minor characters such as Huell and Badger are interesting or likeable enough, then there's the awesomeness of Walt, Gus and of course, Saul.

Lost was my favorite show ever till Breaking Bad knocked it off that perch, and I haven't rewatched it in a while. I worry that it hasn't aged well.

I agree with you, brother. Charlie and Saeed in my opinion were awesome (also a Jinn fan) but yeah, it's in competition with Walking Dead for a show full of arseholes.

If Sawyer's "the shaggy haired American", I'd strongly disagree on that one. His character probably goes through the most development on the show.
But yeah, lots of jerks an/or underdeveloped characters.

I've just started watching The Walking Dead now (literally just finished the 1st ep) and I liked the cop, the black guy and his son but already the survivors in the little camp thing who pick up his radio message annoy me. I can't even explain why but something about them rubs me the wrong way and they've only had like, 2 minutes airtime so far. Hope the characters aren't as unlikeable as you're making out :]

Not all of them, but WD does have its share of dicks that you're supposed to be rooting for.

I'd say that the characters of the first two seasons helped make it one of the greatest shows of all time. It's a shame it was all downhill from there. I'd say the cast from Seasons 1 and 2 were tremendous.

Can't really compare Lost to Breaking Bad, since they have different plots, environments and overall situations that drive the characters. Lost is just about a bunch of random people who get trapped on an island and struggle to survive while dealing with weird stuff. I don't exactly remember every single character, but they weren't so bad that I think the producers did a poor job of casting. If anything, it's more on the writers than the actors. The problem with Lost, though, is it seemed like the producers were more focused on filling the plot with as many twists, turns, red herrings and chekovs guns as possible, that they lost focus. Hence, the many complaints about things being unresolved.

Really, the only character it seems like your supposed to like who I find unlikeable and annoying is Rick Grimes wife. There's something about her that rubs me the wrong way... maybe the fact that she managed to hold out like a month after Grimes death before shagging his best mate. The Korean guy can be a little annoying, but he's still likeable enough.
