I didn't mind when baseball expanded it's playoff by a team in each league, since 95% of time that team will be of high quality. In the NFL? Good chance it's going to be another average team making it in.

I say if they manage to do that then they deserve to get to the Super Bowl.

Evidently Tom Brady grew weary of throwing fade passes to 6'0" Austin Collie, 5'11" Danny Amendola, and 5'10" Julian Edelman. He wants a new challenge, to throw end zone fades to a guy who is 5'9" or shorter. There have been 9-7 and 10-6 Super Bowl champions in the past, but by adding an extra playoff team, is it worth it to de-emphasize the importance of the regular season? What fun would it be seeing 8-8 Pittsburgh loaf through the first six weeks of the season, only to turn the jets on and eek into the playoffs? Should that be rewarded?

The regular season still means a lot and there will still be a lot at stake come Week 17. I see no problem with this. I feel 8 personally is the limit for each conference.

So half the league makes the postseason? That would positively water down the significance of the regular season. Let's say they rolled out an eight-team postseason this year. What did the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers do to deserve a playoff berth? Do you realize that if a few tiebreakers go their way, an eight-team postseason this year would have included the Jets? THE JETS. Same goes for the NFC. Did the Chicago Bears, riding a two-game losing streak and finishing 8-8, really earn a playoff berth this season? The playoff system is fine the way it is. Six teams per conference, the top two earn bye weeks. It doesn't need anything further.

More playoff spots just rewards mediocrity. If you can't win more than 8 games you don't deserve to make the playoffs.

And I think a bye is a disadvantage more often than not.

Why not just let the entire league in, then? The playoffs should be a reward for a great season. Not for being able to hang on and not lose more than you win.

I'd say we are already watering down the post season by giving 8-7-1 or 7-9 division winners spots and homefield for the wildcard round over better teams.

Six teams per conference, the top two earn bye weeks. It doesn't need anything further. I think one thing you're confusing is that there's only going to be one extra slot. And yeah, the Steelers in the playoffs would be a joke this year, but the NFC team that would've benefited this year isn't the Bears. It's the Cardinals, who would absolutely make the playoffs more interesting, and the only reason they aren't in the playoffs this year is because they play in the toughest division in football. They blew out Indy, and beat the two frontrunners for the NFC Championship this year (Carolina, and Seattle IN Seattle). To say that the system isn't broken when these situations where teams are penalized for actually having tough competition in their division happen routinely is a little naive. The larger issue isn't that more wild-card slots are bad, it's that there's a huge disparity right now between the two conferences in terms of quality. And that's always going to be an issue. Edit: Oh, and throw me in for Patriots.

Dolphins and GM Jeff Ireland have mutually agreed to part ways. I just knew this day would come eventually. I'm not going to say "Good Riddance", but when most of the players you sign don't produce results, then you have to face the consequences.

If you also ask potential drafted players if their mother was a prostitute, you don't get said players.
