I really try to keep my personal issues off the forum. But, it seems talking can be a cathartic exercise.
My mom was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer about two years ago. There have been ups and downs this entire time. I saw her a few days after Christmas when my dad and her came up to hang out with us.
Long story short, she went in for an appointment on Friday. Essentially, they determined the chemo is no longer working and are putting her on hospice care. Prognosis is maybe a month or two.
I've always been a momma's boy, and being an only child, my mom has been my best (and sometimes only) friend.
At this point, I feel that combination of lost, numb, and just a complete mess. Trying to keep perspective that she isn't gone yet, she's still in good spirits, just... obviously in shock as well, trying to sort everything out.
I guess I don't know what I'm asking for with this post.
I just needed to get it off my chest..

You can always turn to us if you ever need someone to talk to. I know this is a cliche, but the FAN really is like a big family. If you need a shoulder to lean on, we're here.

I really appreciate it, guys. I don't like being an emotional mooch and stuff, but like I say... sometimes you just have to reach out a bit.
Of course, me being the kind to not let a little thing like this get in the way of my sense of the absurd. I got the word as we were on our way out of town to get some food, on the way back I was just absolutely numb. We were listening to the radio and "With Arms Wide Open" came on.... by the end of the song I just absolutely broke down, and my first thought was, "Congratulations, Creed. All it took was the impending mortality of my mother for me to connect with one of your songs." heh if you can't laugh during adversity, when can you laugh, right?

The small beauty in the whole horrible deal is at least you still have her, and when you know her time left with you is limited you can, and should make the most of it. You probably have a long time left on this side, do the most to sacrifice the next couple of months to be with your mother, make her proud, make her happy and let her know that even when shes gone, you'll always love her and remember her. We all have to go sometime, it's inescapable, but to let someone you love go knowing you were there for them in the end gives you immeasurable faith going forward that you made someone special in your life happy when theirs ended. Don't waste the time you have left.

you have my sympathies. I lost my father to cancer (on my 12th birthday). my grandfather (who was a second father to me) died when I was 19. it's never easy. I'm also very close with my mom and don't know what I'd do without her. just know that you'll always miss them, but it gets better over time. and as long as you don't let it run your life, it's always okay to miss them. if I had any advice it would be to spend as much time as you can with her, and tell her you love her at every opportunity.
