2K Sports done making baseball games.

A representative for 2K Sports provided Polygon with the following statement: "We have decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014. We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K — our industry's #1 rated and #1 selling basketball franchise.

Well it's about damn time. You could tell they were half-assing them since about MLB 2K12.

So while EA takes the time needed to get the MVP series going again, the only way you will be playing new baseball games is if you own a PS3, PS4, or Vita.

I would be sad as I do enjoy their baseball games, but it seemed like the were in a rut with them already.

Like, you get your rosters and your cleaner visuals, but you also get new exciting issues with the gameplay mechanics and A.I. with each new installment.

On the surface they're always better, but when you really dive in, there's almost always some nagging issue that prevents them from being as fun as they were in years' past imo.

Still though, who's going to scratch my stickball itch now?

Probably because the past handful of years was to take advantage of the 360's large install base. Even being the only game on that system didn't help much though.

Their reactionary measure to EA getting exclusive NFL rights of getting third party exclusivity on MLB would have made them lose even more money than it was while they were making games.

Also, at this point, EA should no longer try to make NBA games and the same goes for 2K and MLB (or NHL for that matter).

This is actually more 2k's fault than anything since they were the ones who made the exclusive deal in the first place just to one up EA and the NFL deal. Hopefully this means that exclusivity thing ends and other companies can take a crack at baseball again.
