I always thought of the WB & UPN as generic. I think most other people did as well.

Fox Kids had the best Saturday morning line-up throughout most of the mid-to-late 90s.
That's what got my ratings at least.

And Quite honestly, part of why they FAILED, was mismanagement, and a lack of markets. Both WB and UPN shared Local stations in many markets with other networks (My local UPN also was part of the ABC affiliate). After the CW merger/Debacle they decided to cancel MANY pf their higher rated shows (Reba & Smackdown) due to them attracting the "Wrong" audience. Also, it took a good while for WB to gather an audience, until they found their "Teen Drama" niche they were very much throwing shit at the wall to see what stuck. I really, really never understood them cancelling Reba. While Smackdown was their highest rated show, it did at least have a select demographic that the network apparently did not want (despite the fact that it is the one demographic every other network craves the most). Reba was a successful sitcom which would attract multiple different demographics, including the only demographic that the new CW wanted. Had it been on any other network, even CBS, it probably would have lasted a couple of more years.

All this talk actually kinda makes me miss both networks. The CW and My Network TV just aren't cutting it for me...
