I don't collect much in the way of figures anymore, got rid of my collection going back to when I was a kid, but I picked up collecting the MOTUC line a year or so back and have really enjoyed it. I'm thinking about sort-of getting into Mattel's other line, DCU, but I've already decided that if I do, I'm only going to get the figures based on original Super Friends and Super Powers creations (Black Vulcan, Cyclotron, etc). How are these figures in terms of quality and such? I've heard good and bad about DCU in relation to MOTUC.

I don't but those MOTUC figures are very cool, it's like they took my childhood toys and updated them for modern technology.
Almost tempted to get one or two. (Leech looks great)

Well, the MOTUC line looks like they're using very similar molds and styles of the original line, which was very solid itself.
The DCUC line doesn't seem like it's built as sturdy (trust me, you have no issues of weak articulation points with a MOTU figure, EVER) but it's always looked very good and stylish.
If they're anything like the DC Direct figures (which were very well made, sadly they shut down DC Direct in 2012) they should be very good.

The MOTUC line is very different from the original MOTU line in terms of size, molds, poseability, etc. They're definitely some of the best figures in today's market, but we have a few issues with weak/loose ankle joints every 4th or 5th release. The Mattel DCU line...they use very similar (but SLIGHTLY smaller) tooling as Mattel's MOTUC, but I also keep reading where quality control is nowhere near as consistent as it is on MOTUC, which is the part I'm concerned about.

The figures I'm thinking of getting should I do this:
Black Vulcan El Dorado Samurai Apache Chief Cyclotron Golden Pharoah
possibly Steppenwolf, Parademon and Mantis in their Super Powers variants
