Interesting list there buttttt I have a few issues and am a proud, big, fat loud mouth...who walks when I have to.
10. I don't give two craps about graphics, as long as I can see what is what I am happy. If it were up to me, every game would have anime graphics.
The thing is that I blame the obsession on graphics for the drop in video game quality. Final Fantasy 8 is a good example of this. A great looking, empty world with very little to do. I would rather a great story than great graphics any day.
9. You could have turned the sound down...you know.
8. Loads of 8 bit games were like this. That problem was intentional to make the game harder. Games were brutally difficult back then. In fact, of the first 3 SEGA master System games I ever owned, I only beat one...and I beat it by cheating.
I dare anyone to start a thread asking if Battle Toads was hard. You will see rage lol.
7. I still think this is just developer's being lazy. There was plenty they could do with "Back to the future" but made a bad paperboy clone instead. THis has been a huge problem in the video game industry for years
1989: Every second game is a platformer and most of them suck.
1994: Every second game is a fighter and most of them suck.
2013: Every second game is a FPS and most of them are pretty crap.
6. I have to agree, its poor game design, plain and simple. A great example was the final boss of Phantasy Star 1. Would you think, in the final dungeon mind, on the last floor to turn 2 corners, walk 3 steps and turn left to find the secret door? A friend of myne who had already beat it, told me the trick and he had called the SEGA hotline. (A phone line where an operator would tell you hints or tricks to beat games, it was pretty expensive..might have been cheaper if I was into phone sex back then)
5. God yes, so many games have become completely unplayable due to terrible controls. The really old Commodore 64 sports games were always like this. Never been a big fan of button mashing though (which is most old wrestling games). I think it just wears out your controllers. Also I always loose "mash offs"
4. OMG YES!!! I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate passwords! They were always a giant pain in the ass! When I was a kid, I had an adventure game named Govellius that was great. It was however very long and so you needed to save it. 8 sets of 4 letters! Numbers and upper and lower case. I never successfully entered a password ever! To the guy who invented video game passwords &^%^$%^$&^%$%#$@$^#%&$ YOU!!!
3. Again bad game design. I often wonder if game testing actually takes place. I would say in most companies, no it doesn't, or the testers are yes men.
2. I don't know about this. A decent amount of continues is fine (5 or 6) but unlimited? Christmas 1990 I was given Rampage and Gain Ground and Wonderboy 3 for SMS. Great games. But Rampage had unlimited continues, so we beat it the first time we ever played it. And never played it again. So I think unlimited is overkill and makes any game way too easy.
1. I have no idea who LJN are, as I didn't own a NES. There were tons of reviews back then in magazines, that were actually honest, so we all knew those games were crap.
