So on a complete whim I decided to watch 90's Spiderman on Netflix, the first time seeing it since the late 90s. There is some good to it, the opening theme is kickass, the fight scenes are fun, and the writing is pretty good but my god it goes by way to f***ing fast, and spidey never seems to shut up.
OK here's an example, one episode details Spidermans backstory about letting the robber go and killing Uncle Ben, the whole time Peter Parker is narrating and both his voice and the animation are going by so quickly that none of the emotional impact is left to sink in, the sequence goes by in about a minute and at the end of it all I was like "Wait, what?" because my brain couldn't process anything that was happening. Then again, it happens even worse in part three of "The Mysterious costume" Venom and Spidermans verbal spats are well written and acted but both are speaking a mile a minute and the episode never stops for even ten seconds to let anything they say or do sink in. Spidy seems to switch moods instantly because his sentences all run together and the dude never stops for breath. It's infuriating that this show can't take a breather and establish any kind of mood.

With all due respect--your opinion sucks. :-p But yeah, it's not the best comic cartoon. I prefer the original cartoon to it quite a bit, even if it's not accurate. The 90s Spiderman is OK, but the plot pacing is very weird and spiderman refuses to shut up.

The pacing of the show really was horrible. I understand that they had kids in mind, but there is so little time between beats that it becomes jarring.
That and the shitty CGI swinging sequences.

In the '90's even talking was XTREME.

What always bugged me was the constant narration. Even in the swinging animation, he would recap what we had just seen. Not even after a commercial break, he would finish one scene, swing and then to the next. It actually reminded me of the 90s Spider-man comics where the art was always covered up by dialogue, thought bubbles and narration blocks.

It's an action based superhero cartoon, not some soap melodrama. Notice how in the 90s cartoon the life of Peter Parker barely gets a look in. Kids like myself at the time don't care about his backstory /personal life it's dull they want to see him web up goons and punch Scorpion in the face whilst preventing a bank heist.

Punching is forbidden Though oddly I never noticed it.

I never had a problem with how much Spidey talked, but I still have a problem with how wormy and worry wartish he sounded.

You're the first person I've ever known who doesn't like the theme. To me it was pretty much the only good part of the show. Well that and it introduced me to Iron Man.

For me the entire series doesn't really hold up at all, from the animation on down. I don't know what it is, I liked it when it was first on, but I can barely stand it now
Related, I've been re-watching Spider-man and his Amazing Friends on Netflix and having a ball with that; it's stupid as hell most episodes, but they've hit the sweet spot between superhero action and just batshit goofy insanity that makes it fun even though most every episode is just ridiculous.

Since we're on the subject of 90s Marvel cartoons, that Silver Surfer animated series was pretty damn good, especially considering its peers at the time. If the first season didn't end on the mother of all bummer endings that would have been one of the best cartoons of all time.

I might get some flak for this, but I honestly prefer Ultimate Spiderman.

Ugh, people declaring their love for that shitty theme song! I thought that was by far the worst theme Spidey has ever had.
I loved the cartoon back in the day because I was so obsessed with Super Heroes and wanting them to "get their day" so to speak...especially Spider-Man. Rewatching it though, it's just horrible. Even the cheesy and rather stupid Ultimate Spiderman is better. Spidey constantly talking wouldn't have been a problem...if it'd been him cracking jokes or being awesome...but instead he was crying, worrying, and complaining non-stop. On top of that, Spider-man was constantly shown to be the biggest puss the Marvel Universe has ever produced, getting owned by far weaker characters like Kingpin, Black Cat, Vulture, The Spot, Morbious, Daredevil, and the Punisher. Spidey never seemed to get any real comeuppance on these losers either. They'd whoop his ass and either escape, get captured by someone else, or Spidey would discover "they were good all along!" and team up with them. Never did Spidey dominate anyone in a fight in this show unless he was being evil for whatever reason (Venom Suit, Man-Spider, blah blah).

I love that theme so much so damn epic and Christopher Daniel Barnes is always the voice of Spiderman to me.
And the Venom sage is my favourite saga for so many reasons most hilarious.
Venom driving a semi truck and honking at spiderman will never not be funny
And SHOCKER GET BACK HERE!!! I'LL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!!!!!!
