Been seeing threads about the main site lately and how a lot of you don't go to it. Now I'm not insulted or anything, but I would like to see more of you around. That being said, what would you like to see on the site?
Would more articles spotlighting the forum be something you'd like?
Should I offer Lancers a multimillion dollar contract to bring wrestletaint.gov to the main site?
More videos?
The site is due for a facelift fairly soon, and I'd like to incorporate more of what this forum is about into the site. Suggestions are welcomed.

More wrestling articles is the main thing, most weeks it's just the podcast with nothing to read. I liked the recent "best of 2013" style awards and would like more of those sort of votes in various subjects, either on 2013, all-time, or a match/thread/joke/wrestler/photoshop of the month type vote. I'd like more videogames (playing with power is the one series I read regularly) and TV articles .
More of everything then basically.
Are contributors still limited to a core group of regular writers? If so I'd like more one-off guest articles on various pop culture things as I'm sure many here have passion or knowledge for certain subjects that wouldn't be suitable for an extended series or generate much discussion in a forum post. If their writing isn't up to scratch I'm sure some of the regular writers could either help them write it or change things to an interview format.
I'd also like that philosophy extended to live event reports (not just on wrestling) and outsider perspectives from some our forum members, I'm thinking something like an article where our international posters talk about what it's like following wrestling in their country.

Do articles based on board memes, like "Current World Events....in MS Paint" or "Photoshop President Francois Hollande Into Movie Sex Scenes" or such and such.

-More contests would be cool. I know we've had a few already but haven't seen one in awhile. -More interactive articles that others can participate in (webcasts, etc...)

I can tell you what I'd like to see more of and less of. More wrestling articles, first and foremost. I mean, that's a big part of why I come here. I like wrestling. More video game articles, whether it be reviews or whatever, it doesn't matter. I'll read it. I'd like it more if it was a spotlight on games that most people don't really know about or pay attention to, too. I'm more inclined to read an in-depth review of a game like Nier, one that deserves more love as opposed to the 50000th hyperbolic Last of Us review. Just using that as an example, I don't know if you guys even did a review of TLOU. Movie reviews, especially more obscure or silly ones are good too, though I think you guys have been doing a pretty good job of that already. More articles spotlighting the forum would be pretty cool too, and it's something that ALL of us have in common since we're all users here.
I'd like to see less kids' show stuff, particularly My Little Pony. Not only are there better sites to go to if I want a nostalgia trip (which I rarely do) but to be blunt, and I know I'm not alone here, I'm tired of that MLP stuff cropping up on every damn website I go to. 2010 was 4 years ago. I thought the fad would be over by now. That's just how I feel about it though. Feel free to disregard it, I'm just answering the question.

Right off the bat, I gotta say the general colour sceme and look of the site is rather drab. Glad to hear you're addressing that.
Also, I gotta say, that having articles organized chronologically causes issues. Page 1 of "Cartoons" is 8 out of 10 tiles MLP. I don't hate MLP, but it is a little off putting to have that much of any one subject thrown in your face. I almost didn't click over to page 2, where I found some really cool articles about Reboot, but same problem as Page 1, as 8 of 10 articles were the Reboot recaps.
As for the articles themselves, really digging the Video Game section. Pretty much all the articles piqued my attention, however when I went into movies and music it felt like everything was a little obscure even for me. Or I'm just crazy out of touch with things these days, which is also a distinct possibility. TV had stuff that interested me, but it would be nice to see some newer stuff mixed in too.
Honestly, I don't see any major issues with the site, and there's definitely enough to get me to pop in from time to time. But the heavy focus on nostalgia is what would keep this from being a daily visit, and instead likely a weekly/bi-weekly visit. Personally, I feel if there was more of a mix of modern and nostalgia it would improve what's already a pretty fun site. I'll definitely be checking it out more often tho
But, keep in mind, I write this after only playing on there for like 30 minutes or so. And 4 minutes of that was the amazing Reboot Season 3 recap video. Once I spend some time really digging into articles, and start visiting more regularly I can probably give some better feedback.

Realistically speaking the biggest name games that have been reviewed have been BioShock Infinite and the Tomb Raider reboot. Most of the modern games we've reviewed have been indie games or niche Japanese made games. 2) Dude the MLP stuff only appears during the seasons they air. It is something you can easily ignore.......

See there has to be a better way to organize it (which I'll look into) so that you can go to the articles that interest you.
I understand by catering to a wide group that certain elements are going to turn people off. I think the best thing is to figure out how to make things less overwhelming in one field or another.
I'm really appreciating this.

kash, do we know why our search bar is gone? Adding that again could assist in organizing and streamlining people finding topics they like.
Also, if people want to vote on top ten lists and get more involved, I'm up to try.

I think if the site had a more cohesive feel it would work much better. To me it has always seemed like a collection of semi collected essays about popular culture. The other thing that others have said in this thread is that I think you need recognize that despite the attempts to make FAN a general popular culture site most people on this forum overwhelmingly participate in the Wrestling boards. I remember the transition from The Wrestlecrap Forum to FAN where you and Madison explained that the FAN Forum was going to remain a wrestling mostly forum where the site was going to be pop culture in general. Honestly to me that always seemed a little backwards.

I would go on the site a lot more if there was more up to date stuff. Like, don't get me wrong - I love a bit of nostalgia. But it would be great to see stuff about current popular TV series's, new movies, a wider variety of music.
There are a lot of people on here with a ridiculously wide variety of interests, so it'd be nice to show that a little more.
I think having more writers would be a good idea. Obviously, thats not something you could do at a drop of a hat but I'm sure there are a few people on here who would happily contribute. I'm almost finished with my journalism degree, so I'd be happy to do any kind of contribution. It's just a bit strange when you go on and 99% of the TV section or the music section is all written by the same person.
Byeah, as I'm not huge into video games or comics and I've not watched most of the TV shows or movies that are written about on the site - it's not somewhere I think to go.
EDIT: I've literally just figured out what I find so off putting about the site - the categories go down the side and looks a bit messy, and there's basically no menu bar (except the About, Forum etc). I find it weird for some reason. My brain assumes that the categories would go along the top, with perhaps columnists down the side or something. I've been brainwashed by the internet.

Wrestletaint on the main site would be awesome.
I think there needs to be more vertical integration with the forum. My issue with the main site is when I end up there I'll read a few articles and really enjoy the content but for whatever reason I always seem to forget the main site is there. I'm not sure how this could be accomplished though.
Also the layout of the menu page at the moment is a bit overwhelming. It's just a straight list of all the articles which can get headache inducing. I think it would be more encouraging if things were spread out a bit more maybe with new articles highlighted with a bigger box and image towards the top of the page and information like Date, Author and Category displayed underneath them and maybe a description of the article instead of including a certain amount of words and then read more which often time gives very little indication to what the article is about.
The amount of Categories is a bit too much as well, couldn't they be lessened and then have the more specific ones as sub catergories?
Basically layout wise taking a page out of 411manias book wouldnt be the worse idea in the world (but only layout, their content is awful nowadays)
Also what about a subforum on here where each article has a thread created for it with a link to that article, the thread being for discussing that article. Then on the articles page on the main site there can be a link at the bottom stating "Click here to discuss this on our forum" that would encourage more interaction

I think more one off pieces would be pretty cool, especially if we have people going to an event like a concert and writing a nice recap of what went down.
I understand sports are already covered by tons of other websites, but it would be cool to have a few articles on sports that aren't necessarily about the games themselves, but more on the FAN's experience at the arena/stadium or perspective.
I also think a "Dear Abby" weekly column would be a fun easy way to increase entertaining content. I think writing an advice column would be fun, it doesn't even have to be just answering questions either, it could be guides on helping people with issues like dating, social awkwardness, confidence, etc.

Needs more wrestletaint.gov and less MLP. Reading other posts, this is a well spoken viewpoint. And saying just to ignore it is akin to saying to read playboy and just read the articles. It's off putting.
I'd like it to be more of a reflection of our boards, really. Some current wrestling, some classic, off topic articles about Kevin Sorbo, Uncle Frank and music genres. Think 411mania, but much better. If the current site was a photographic representation of how the actual boards are, then our boards may as well have a MLP subforum.

Here is my reposted thoughts from the other thread:
It honestly because none of the topics really interest me. Like I don't really care for anime or manga or comic books and I don't really want to read wrestling articles because everything outside of off topic and forum games is a wrestling article of opinion. Also way too much nostalgia and cartoons like when I click on TV articles I am expecting Breaking Bad/Modern Family/Game of Thrones/etc but it's just MLP of Power Rangers or Rockos Modern Life. Same thing with video games instead or current reviews it's always old 8 bit games. I know there are reviews on current games but you have to click through a bunch of pages to find one and click through more for the second one. Same thing with music. I like Evilutions metal reviews but every page on music is just his reviews. Id imagine someone who hates metal wants to find something else they would of gave up a long time ago finding something that isn't Evilution metal reviews.
I do like the stuff that is different then you normally would find on the net like Mikey Cee's direct to DVD's reviews, Evilutions metal reviews, or Bobs HOF threads. I just feel there needs to be more organization and more accessible topics that isn't nostalgia or cartoons. Like problem with many nostalgia reviews is that there are so many reviewers out there and people are more interested in watching an amusing insightful personality like Nostalgia Critic or AVGN then read a written review when there are already tons of them.
An idea I do have that can increase FAN productivity stamping our reputation and increase traffic is do weekly or monthly photoshop challenges and post the pictures on the site. Something Similiar to Something Awfuls photoshop Friday with a watermark for FAN. The moment you see pictures that we photoshopped on the dirt sheets and other wrestling forums and tumblr shows people are paying notice to us.
If I wasn't burnt out by the NHL season this year so early I wouldn't mind making bleacher report style lists and power ranking articles. f***ing sports fans love lists and countdown articles and can't get enough of them. Plus it's great for casual hockey fans and believe me there are tons of them who want to see if their local team is really going to be good this year and they need some Internet guys short but sweet opinion if they should pay attention to hockey this year.
Hell f***ing countdowns and lists are great in general. Just for the love of god put as much stuff on one page as possible because I hate clicking next 32 times.
