Let me see if I can explain it: Vince/HHH/Stephanie know how big a deal Daniel Bryan is. When they don't give him the strap or put him in the main event, etc., know what happens? It causes a buzz. Gets people talking. Causes more people to tune in to see what will happen next. And they are more than happy to play the role of clueless putz/or egomaniac who refuses to give the people what they want. Who is their biggest star? Daniel Bryan. How do you keep getting him over? Make out that you are "holding him down".
Bobby Heenan said that managing was simple. If you want people to make noise, you tell them to be quiet. They've shifted the paradigm. Much like they managed to secretly make Cena the biggest heel in the WWE (to the smark crowd). As someone else on this board pointed out, why turn Cena heel? He already is. Why put Bryan in the top spot? He already is.

So in this very thread I said I would be taking a break, and then watched tonight out of morbid curiosity to see how the crowd would respond...and now based on the opening segment I am again sucked in.
Damn you Vince.

I think all this drama could've been avoided if the countdown to #30 happened, the crowd "YES!"d itself out, but instead Lesnar came out won the Rumble. Resoundingly.
Soon after, Heyman states that "my client, Brock Lesnar, will win the WWE title at Wrestlemania, and then will do whatever he feels like doing, even leaving the company".
After that, Bryan actually wins the title off of Orton, and Trips and co. first try to get the strap off him by throwing challengers his way ("there's no way he could beat Lesnar!"), then, resigned to their fate, are stuck turning to him to vanquish the Monster.
WM XXX ends with Daniel Bryan defeating Brock Lesnar in a 20-25 minute brutal war.

So at the very least. I think they've realized that Orton/Batista headlining Mania is not a good idea. I don't know if that means Bryan is in, but I'm now doubting we're getting Orton/Batista straight up.

At this point in time in 1997, the title match at WrestleMania was Shawn Michaels defending against Rumble winner Steve Austin (or at least the winner of Austin/Bret Hart/Vader/The Undertaker at In Your House: Final Four). Presto change-o, things happen all over the place and the title match at WrestleMania is champion Sycho Sid against challenger Undertaker.

There's no contingency or booking they can do that will change that other than adding Bryan to the Title match mix.

I am not disagreeing on that, I just don't see Vince McMahon giving in on a plan he's had for months and already put into motion unless Orton strikes out or Batista gets caught with an underage hooker injecting him with fresh fetal pigs bloods mixed with horse steroids. If this was Nov.-Dec. maybe but not in late Jan.

It NEEDS to be face Bryan vs. heel Batista at Mania. Nothing else makes sense to me.

honestly I'm less mad Bryan didn't win than I am with Batista winning. Rocky started a shitty precedent.

They better not f***ing set up Sheamus vs. Bryan at Elimination Chamber. Once Bryan is eliminated, the crowd is most likely going to crap all over the rest of the match like they did when Bryan didn't come out for the Rumble.

Bryan right now is like RVD in 2002, minus the whole 'pothead that constantly hurts his opponents' thing, and without as much competition for the top babyface spot. Cena's time is waning, Punk always seems a step away from retirement, I can't see Sheamus being the top guy. It's Bryan's time. He's probably not exactly what they want, but they need to roll with it for now. Meanwhile, they can build up guys like Big E and Roman Reigns types to get to that level in the next few years.

Seems like The Authority/Creative/Vince bought three-four weeks of peace until EC where Bryan will most likely fail to win and things will stay on course for Sheamus vs Bryan. Nothing really changed last night, and WWE found away to hush fans for now. It will be interesting to see what is their plan once Bryan loses the Chamber and there's another 6 weeks until Mania.

Don't fret people Bryan wins the Chamber and beats Douchtista at Mania. If that don't happen then I'll just hang myself too.

Personally I think it's already too late. The moment and opportunity has been lost. Even if he makes it to Wrestlemania and wins the title, the path to that has been so stop-start, convoluted, and with so many different people involved, it just won't have the payoff that it should.
