I expect that kind of stuff from Rainbow Dash, but not you Twilight. May I remind you who had the hoof stitched Starswirl the Bearded costume that she wore both on Nightmare Night AND to that festival?

Was there an event that required such a Daring Do costume?

Why of course there was, the annual Daring Con. And since Twilight can make a historically accurate Star Swirl costume, replicating a Daring Do costume from cover art should be a snap DARING-CON!??! omygoshomygoshomygosh *doesn't know if she just wants to be there as a fan or sign autographs for the latest story*

In that case, I expect something much better than that half-assed attempt.

What part about it is half-assed? Seems very accurate to me.

Anyway, recap of round 2 day 1. Upsets aplenty! {Spoiler}{Spoiler}In the very first game of the second round, we saw Carrot Cake pull off an upset win over Twilight Sparkle. It was a back and forth contest that came down to final possession of the game. Carrot hit the go ahead layup with less than 4 seconds to go. Twilight had her chance to put up a game winning shot, but ended up missing, giving the victory to the orange stallion. This upset surprised everyone, including Carrot Cake, who fainted from shock once the clock hit zeroes. Twilight, on the other hand, consulted her basketball manual to understand why she didn’t walk away with the victory.
Unlike the first game, there was no contest in this one, as Scootaloo absolutely dominated Berry Punch. From the very beginning, Berry Punch was stumbling and staggering all over the court, obviously on some sort of substance, allowing Scootaloo to easily take advantage and score at will. By the end of the game, the CMCer had more than double the lush’s final score. Scootaloo was doing cartwheels in celebration, while Berry Punch was seen drinking from an unmarked bottle post game.
In yet another dominating game, Trixie stood no chance against Coco Pommel. The great and powerful one’s overconfidence is what got her to underestimate her opponent, allowing the young seamstress to put up a dazzling display of offense. By the time Trixie realized what had happened, it was way too late for her to even attempt a comeback. A small smile of satisfaction is all we saw from Coco Pommel post game, while Trixie disappeared with a cloud of smoke.
In another upset, Daring Do was able to get past Miss Peachbottom. It was another even contest throughout this one. In the final minutes, however, Miss Peachbottom became slightly distracted when she thought she saw Shining Armor in the crowd, but it just turned out to some random pony in a very shiny outfit made by Rarity. This temporary lapse allowed Daring Do to score a few unanswered points and escape with a victory.
It’s either upsets or dominating wins so far, and the next game was one of the latter, as Flash Sentry just blew out Cloudchaser. Apparently Flash was enraged about a certain princess losing earlier in the day, to which he showed absolutely no mercy to his opponent. Cloudchaser gave it her best effort, but unfortunately for her the Crystal Empire guard was playing like a stallion possessed. When approached for a post game interview, the only words Flash Sentry said though his gritted teeth were, “Carrot Cake…..” who also happens to be his opponent in the next round.
It was a battle between student and teacher, as Snails took on Cheerilee. In this contest, it was the teacher that proved to be superior. Snails had a decent showing in the first half and only trailed by a few points going into halftime. The second half, however, was a different story, as Cheerilee, most appropriately, took her student to school. The teacher put up monster numbers that her student just couldn’t overcome, giving her the easy win. Post game, Cheerilee commented, “You younglings need to study a lot harder if you want to beat me at basketball,” to which Snails replied, “Wait, we weren’t playing baseball?” No Snails, no we weren’t.
Silver Spoon, coming off her big win in the first round, went up against the #1 seeded Shining Armor. Many believed that the captain of the royal guard would have no problems dispatching the young filly. However, Silver Spoon surprisingly kept up with the captain for the majority of the game, even taking the lead a few time. In the end, Shining Armor was able to pull away in the final few minutes to pull off a not-so-convincing win. Still, a win is a win, and the captain moves on to the next round.
2012 champion Allie Way got off to a very nice start as she had no problems getting by Princess Cadance. The bowling pony showed that she was the more athletic of the two as she quickly built up a lead that she never relinquished. Apparently Cadance just had her hair done and didn’t want it to get ruined in the game. Why she scheduled it right before the contest was beyond everyone. Still, it was all class from the princess of the Crystal Empire, as she congratulated her victorious opponent once the game was over.
It looked to be another upset as Princess Luna took on Big Macintosh. The princess of the night was leading in the final seconds of the game, but the apple farmer was able to hit the game tying shot to force overtime. From there it was an endurance race that Luna just couldn’t keep up with. All the years on the farm helped build Big Mac’s stamina, which allowed him to take the win. When asked if he was satisfied with his performance, Big Mac simply responded, “Eeyup.”
It was a battle of the unorthodox styles, as Screwball took on Snips. Apparently nopony knew just what the heck was going on out on the court, not even the players themselves. Eventually, it was child of Discord the emerged the victor over her smaller opponent. Both competitors were approached for post game interviews, but it was just one big incoherent mess.
Another game went into overtime, and Rarity needed every minute of it to get by Doctor Whooves. The Doc dominated for most of the contest, but the fashionista was able to pull together a late rally in the closing minutes to send the game into overtime. From there it was the exact opposite of regulation, with Rarity dominating the majority of overtime. The Doc was able to close the gap in the final seconds and even had a good look for a game tying shot, but ultimately fell short, giving Rarity a sigh of relief as survives with a win.
In probably the biggest upset of the tournament (so far), Lyra was able to knock out defending champion Wild Fire. It was a relatively even matchup, with each pony unable to break away from the other. It looked like Wild Fire would hold on for the win, but Lyra was able to hit a game tying shot in the closing seconds to force the third overtime of the day. In the extra period, Lyra switched to her bipedal style offense, which caught Wild Fire completely off guard. Lyra was able to get a few quick and easy scores, forcing Wild fire on her heels. The defending champ tried to come back, but couldn’t get past Lyra’s defense. Upon her victory, the green mare happily exclaimed, “Yo Bonnie, I did it!” while Wild Fire looked on completely flabbergasted.
In what was probably the best finish of the season, Diamond Tiara took Mayor Mare to the limit. It looked like the mayor would easily take care of her smaller opponent, but the young filly was able to erase the deficit and even took a lead in the closing seconds. However, the mayor’s experience proved to be the deciding factor as she was able to hit the game winning shot as time expired to pull off the win. Diamond Tiara showed her dismay once the game was over, while Mayor Mare had to be helped to the locker room having been completely exhausted.
It looked pretty even in the first half between Derpy and Aloe, but that all changed once the second half hit. Aloe exploded from the opening whistle while Derpy surprisingly stared in awe. Derpy seemed a bit disappointed from the loss after the game, but was immediately perked back up when Aloe presented her with a gift basket of muffins.
Princess Celestia took on Flam in another battle that came down to the wire. Flam used his Super-Routher-3-point-Shooter to take a lead in the closing seconds. The princess tried to use some underhanded tactics of her own, but you can’t really make a stallion so uncomfortable that he couldn’t simply push a button. In the end, Flam knocks out the final princess remaining in the tournament.
In the final match of the day, we were treated to one more overtime session between Bulk Biceps and Twist. It looked like the burly stallion would easily take care of his much smaller opponent, but apparently someone let a butterfly onto the court, causing Bulk Biceps to run in fear. The peppermint filly used this distraction to tie up the game and send it into overtime. Bulk Biceps was able to regain his composure for the extra session and built up a big enough lead to put away the little filly. “Yeah!” was all the he exclaimed after the victory.

So yeah, I added a Dash and Fluttershy to that pic I drew before, then I banged it around in Photoshop. It was my first time trying to work with layers/gradients so I apologize for the sloppiness. I dunno what Applejack is so pissed about, 'twas just going for an intense feel.
