Wow, there was a lot of people born today.

Takayuki Yagi started out doing a fisherman's gimmick. He would use moves like the fisherman's suplex and a cross-legged Octopus Hold.

I remember that, especially that gigantic flag he used to bring to the ring. He was pretty good when he wrestled... I guess injuries got to him and he started refereeing.

I believe that is correct. I think a lot of the early Toryumon/T2P wrestlers had relatively short in-ring careers due to the style.
