Just hit me, not only was this a near shot for shot remake of Wrestlemania, it was also damn near identical to RVD's TNA title win over AJ. Wrestle and win the opener, have the heel's crony who has helped him escape with the belt banned by the face authority figure and do the shocking changing. Only difference is RVD vs. Jeff Hardy for the world title shot was not the opener as it happened mid show.

Just when I think Willow can't get any more absurd, he says stuff like this. I like Eric Young, but seriously....

Super credible champion. I can't stop thinking about this. It's just so absurd.

Another thing: they took time and effort to build up Samoa Joe in the lead up to the Lockdown by having him be a destroyer and beat everyone. Then comes the PPV and he loses after being pulled into a hole and stabbed by Janice. Soon after they have the title change on Impact to an ally of Joe out of no where.
Where have I seen this before?
Angle vs. Roode at BFG.
That worked out well, didn't it? I don't understand why they continually show they are capable of building up a credible challenger to become their champion and then have them lose in a stupid fashion only for a random to win it out of no where? Stupid ass company.

And to be fair, your Angle/Roode example did work out for Roode eventually.

They went the opposite route and had him become the cowardly heel who needs to cheat to win. I didn't say he wasn't a success but he should have been completely different. They worked really hard to build him up into a big deal, same as they have with Joe, and they go in another direction that ruins all that.

I actually thought they made a mistake & was quite upset when Roode didn't win the title at BFG, but thankfully it eventually worked out for him, since, imo, he's a better heel than face, & even though Joe getting a concussion most likely ruined their original plan, I do think they could've handled it differently. Plus if EY won it at Sacrifice, wrestling only 1 match, I don't think many people would've called it a rip-off(some still would've, but whatever).

You know my biggest hope for all of this? What I want more than anything else? Somebody has to make an Eric Young tribute exactly like the Daniel Bryan WrestleMania package. "Monster" and all.
I'm begging you, internet.

i stopped watching tna after AJ left and they're not giving me any hopes to tune back by pulling 'stunts' like this.
and i don't even hate EY.
it's like giving Heath Slater the WWE title because he's been a company man.

This seems like a rip off, but stop saying Abyss wearing a suit once is a copy if the Kane character. He just is generally, not in that moment

"Hey! Look! We put our title on our beardyman! Clearly, that's all we needed to do! Forget storyline, buildup, or circumstance! Our title is on the beard-haver! Surely unprecedented success is on the horizon!" The lack of a storyline or build is the what keeps this Storuling from being a ripoff. Imagine if EY were actually chasing the title with Dixie telling him that he doesn't fit the company's vision. THAT would be a ripoff.

I'd say it's both. The fact that there's no buildup, it's been completely out of nowhere, right around the time of WrestleMania, with Eric Young having lost pretty much all of his matches up til this point just screams "OUR BEARDY MAN HAS A TITLE. IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME."

They only needed to do it once in order to invite the comparisons. They could have avoided it by at least going with a different colored suit or something (or having wear a tattered suit, something that would set him apart from Kane), but that would require TNA to have some concept of self-awareness.

This does feel like they were trying to parody the Daniel Bryan hype a bit. He might lose the title back to Magnus anyways.

This really might be one of their worst decisions, it's said all the time but how is TNA not circling the drain in anyone's opinion? Top talent leaving in droves, what clever storylines they have get butchered, rumors of horrible pay and now putting the title on what amounts to their Santino.
If they make it to 2015 color me shocked.

Considering how this was a giant surprise, it doesn't seem like it was ripping off Daniel Bryan...it was ripping off another famous incident.
Michael Cole: "We understand that Eric Young, who used to wrestle here on Velocity and Sunday night Heat, is gonna win their World Title. Huh, that'll put some butts in the seats."
