Week Three
Our winner is The Big Event Summerslam 2007 joins Uncensored 1885 and The Great American Bash 1990 as options in a future "Second Place, Second Chance" week The Big Event was a major World Wrestling Federation (WWF) show which took place on August 28, 1986 at the Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The show drew a legitimate crowd of 64,100; although officially the WWF claimed that it drew over 74,000 fans which was an outdoor attendance record at the time. With either 64,000 or 74,000 fans in attendance, the event set an attendance record for a wrestling show that wouldn’t be beaten until WrestleMania III. The event was later released on VHS tape by Coliseum Home Video. Commentary for the event was done by Gorilla Monsoon, Johnny Valiant, and Ernie Ladd. This is a vhs-rip of that release. enjoy! * The Killer Bees (Jim Brunzell & B. Brian Blair) vs Jimmy Jack Funk & Hoss (Dory, Jr.) Funk (w/Jimmy Hart) * The Magnificent Muraco (w/Mr. Fuji) vs. King Tonga * Ted Arcidi vs. Tony Garea * The Junkyard Dog vs. Adrian Adonis (w/Jimmy Hart) * "The Rebel" Dick Slater vs. "Iron" Mike Sharpe * Bobby Heenan, King Kong Bundy, & Big John Studd vs Lou Albano & The Machines (Super Machine & Big Machine) (w/Giant Machine) * Ricky Steamboat vs. Jake Roberts in a Snake Pit Match * Billy Jack Haynes vs. Hercules Hernandez * 'The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques & Raymond) vs. The Dream Team (Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake) * King Harley vs Pedro Morales * Hulk Hogan (c) vs Paul Orndorff (w/Bobby Heenan) for the WWF Championship

Taz pulls double duty? Interesting, I hope there's a good promo package to explain it.

I would rather see Uncensored 1885. That was where Farmers Burns fought Evan "Strangler" Lewis in the first ever TLC Match with John Sullivan as the guest referee, right? Taz pulls double duty? Interesting, I hope there's a good promo package to explain it. Depends, do you consider "Chris Candido showed up in no condition to work a match" a good promo package?

Frank Gotch also appeared in a 2 hour Iron Man match against Dan Mcleod I believe. Apparantley they ran quite a hot angle before the match in which Mcleod pretended to be an Audience member who hopped the barricade and challenged Gotch to the match, He got a great deal of heat on him when it was revealed he was really a trained wrestler and that he had duped both Gotch and the audience.

This is a total one match PPV. Taz and Candido was never serious, even Styles buried Candido leading up to it saying he was not a threat to Taz. The Bubba main event was set up during the show in fact.
The one match? RVD/Lynn. I believe that finished runner up for Match of the Year in 1999 in the PWI year end poll. I think the match they had on TNN was even better though, since Lynn's broken ribs gave that one a surefire element of drama that this one didn't quite have (and RVD stalls a bit too much here). That said, matches such as this one are why Van Dam was such a unique talent back then, seamlessly mixing high flying moves, technical wrestling, and violent hardcore mayhem into a package that was uncommon.

Lynn and Van Damme are two guys who just clicked in the ring. They were amazing together, even their Sunday Night Heat match was awesome. Also, currently on a smoke break during Tajiri/Guido which I've really enjoyed. And Gertner chucking lit matches at Balls was hilarious.

Just started watching now.
The banter between Cyrus and Joey Styles is pretty entertaining, but it seems like the sort of thing that could get grating after a while, I'll see how it plays out.
The sound was a bit screwy at the start, during the opening promos I struggled to hear Candido. But it seems to be sorted now
I find it hillarious how "Balls" for the strikes during Balls Mahoney matches was basically the ECW equivalent of the "yes" chanting in time with Daniel Bryans kicks (even complete with "Woooooooooaaaaaaahhhh BALLS!" chant during a build up)
And I've now seen someone botch a friggin elbow drop. Well done Balls.

Candido was definitely not a threat to Taz as his stock fell after the Triple Threat broke up, he even got squashed on TV by Taz a week later.
Taz/Bubba was decent, I remember liking the RVD/Lynn match a lot back then, but it hasn't held up for me. I preferred the encounter they had on TV a week after Heatwave 98.
The rest of the PPV was ok, gave it 6/10.

Joel Gertner is the greatest and it's a shame we don't have more gifs of that man jiggling away.
I'm finding the "You f***ed Up" chants are really obnoxious on this show and they don't usually bother me THAT much.

Buh Buh: But I like Rod. D-Von: Here is the money Buh Buh: Ha Ha...I never liked that redneck son of a b****.
Buh Buh: Jack Victory is our boy and he has a bad leg. So, just interested...how much did Brother Gertner leave for us? D-Von: Oh man...5 Grand Buh Buh: Ah man...Jack Victory is a dead man.

I'm having problems watching the full show. It started skipping on me in the middle of the first tag match so I can't comment too much just yet. I'm hoping to watch the rest though before the end of the weekend.
I decided to stop before the TAKA vs Super Crazy match. I'd rather see that one without the video issues.

Yeah as noted there are other RVD/Lynn matches out there that might trump this one despite its lofty placing in 1999 MOTY listings. The Aug. 1998 match on ECW TV was quite good and had perhaps the most breathtaking northern lights suplex I've ever seen (it made the ECW opening reel). And I noted the Sept. 1999 TNN match was my favorite.
Given the Russo-rific silliness of 1999 era WWF and the awful state of WCW that year, it's safe to say ECW had easily the best wrestling product in America during that time period. Hardcore Heaven wasn't their best PPV that year, but it has its charms.

Did the WWF loan TAKA to ECW for this show? I was pretty sure he was under WWF contract from 1997-2000.

Joey said something about Taka being an ex WWF wrestler, I'm not sure if that was just storyline though, there's certainly a history of them l8aning talent to ECW, they sent Al Snow there to work on a gimmick. Plus he was wearing a WWF robe. His wikipedia page mentions nothing about it. also that bit where it looks like they are going to do the standard wrestling spot where Crazy is on the floor and Taka runs tbe ropes jumping over him but instead Taka dives in to him with an elbow and then points to his head as if to say "I'm so smart" got a good laugh from me

Not far thought this... But man, that bump to the outside by Spike could have gone way worse.
