We all know the superstars and hall of famers like Michael Jordan and Jerry Rice, but who are your favorite players that will never make anyones alltime great list? I'm talking career backups, journeymen, fringe allstars, one season flashes in the pan etc.
Here's a few of mine. To no surprise my list will be mainly guys from my teams, the Sacramento Kings, San Jose Sharks, San Francisco Giants, and the 49ers. This thread will be cool to see all the regional picks.
NBA: Tyus Edney, Mahmoud Abul- Rauf, The L Train Lionel Simmons, Otis Thorpe, Bobby Jackson, Scott Pollard, and Jon Barry.
NHL: Mike Ricci, Johnathan Cheechoo, Alexander Korolyuk, Alyn McCauley, and Arturs Irbe.
NFL: Steve Bono(the best backup qb ever), William Floyd, The Rocket Ismail, JJ Stokes, He Hate Me, Tommy Maddux, Jeff Garcia, Tai Streets, John Kuhn, Tom Rathman, Merton Hanks, John Taylor, and Brian Jennings(best long snapper in history).
MLB: Marvin Bernard, JT Snow, Rich Arullia, Stan Javier, Rod Beck, Matt Stairs, Greg Vaughn, Ruben Sierra, and Pat Burrell.

Billy Gunn. He was probably the best pure athlete in WWE history, but he never really attained the level of success that he deserved.
I don't really watch sports--so that's all I got.

That guy was dope.

Good picks! Sahreef and Muggsy were awesome!
I can't believe I forgot to put Wayman Tisdale on my original list. Dude was a solid player and a fantastic musician.

So Taguchi, Tom Pagnozzi, Willie McGee. These 3 along with David Eckstein, Mike Matheny and Yadier Molina were my dad's favorite all time Cardinals, he always loved the catchers, and the "little" guys. Of course Molina doesn't fit in with this topic. I've gotta add Woody Williams, who was sort of the epitome of a journeyman pitcher until he came to the Cards. When they traded Lankford for him, I was pissed since Woody seemed like a dime a dozen innings-eater type pitcher. But for a short time, when he was healthy, he was awesome. I remember listening to Jim Rome one afternoon during the 2001 playoffs and he kept going on and on about how awesome Randy Johnson was and kept saying that betting on the Dbacks winning that night against the Cards was a lock. I knew Woody was pitching and I yelled "I'll take that bet" at the radio, and Woody outpitched Randy that night, and got the win.

Alvaro Espinosa. When I was just getting into baseball in 1995 and the Indians were red-hot, he was the most recognizable player to me. It was probably the glasses and the mustache.

Ronald Bradstock. Dude has held world records for throwing all kinds of crap, from normal stuff like javelins to golf balls, to cell phones, to fish to eggs.

Tommy Herr, So Taguchi, Tom Pagnozzi, Willie McGee. Willie McGee is obscure?! Is that true? When I think of obscure Cardinals, I think of guys like Brian Jordan (Played in NFL and MLB), Kiko Calero (Funny name), Ray King (Portly lefty outa the bullpen), Todd Worrell (forgotten closer), Jose Oquendo (funny batting stance; may not count either), Steve Lake (RBI Baseball), Bob Tewksbury (flash in the pan for a couple of years), etc.
